SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

It has been suggested that this is a good one to get from newegg for an external esata drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185&cm_re=Samsung_F3-_-22-152-185-_-Product

There is a wide price range on esata enclosures. Some saying they have ac adapters. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&Description=esata%20enclosure&page=2&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=20
Does it matter which enclosure is used or if it has an ac adapter?

One more question: Will the drive itself need any formatting?

I thought it would be quicker to ask here than email newegg. Looks like I will have to send an email later.

I just bought 3 of the drives, but I am using them internally.  They have good reports here on this forum.

You want an external enclosure with AC adapter.
    Don't try to bus-power a high-performance HD...
Regarding which external enclosure, you usually get about what you pay for.
I like an aluminum unit... that has switchable fan (on/off).

    The F3 HDs are excellent...

Just leaving a thanks here for the heads up on the Spinpoint. Newegg makes you jump through hoops while registering, if your cards billing address is a PO Box and you ship to a physical address. I found the same drive online at Walmart (of all places). I already had an account there for free site to store shipping.
