SB X-fi Xtreme no audio

I recently built a new PC running Vista x64 (first problem probably)... I have a Sound Blaster X-fi Xtreme installed. If I turn on Audio Options>Advanced>Share Drivers With Other Programs and Audio Options>Advanced>Use MMCSS (Windows Vista) then some stuff finally shows up in the Drivers list:

Input Drivers:
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio S/PDIF-In [WaveRT]
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Mic-In [WaveRT]
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Mic-In [WaveRT](2)

Output Drivers:
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio S/PDIF-Out [WaveRT]
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Audio Line-Out [WaveRT] 1/2
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Audio Line-Out [WaveRT] 3/4
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Audio Line-Out [WaveRT] 5/6
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Audio Line-Out [WaveRT] 7/8

However, after selecting which drivers to use or before profiling, a message box pops up:

Audio Driver Error:
The following driver(s) either do not support the current audio format, or are in use by another application. Please choose whether you wan to disable them or use them anyway.

And it lists all the drivers I have selected.

In the wave profiler it displays:

==== Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio (Vista) (3 in, 5 out) ====
11025 Hz: not available
22050 Hz: not available
44100 Hz: not available
48000 Hz: not available
88200 Hz: not available
96000 Hz: not available
176400 Hz: not available
192000 Hz: not available

I tried also installing ASIO4ALL as it seemed on some other posts that it might help. The ASIO panel shows the card as running. When I tried setting sonar to use ASIO drivers, nothing came up at all.

Thanks for any suggestions.

    Wow, Vista 64 and a Soundblaster. It seems to me that you're just asking for problems.
    First off, un-check the "Share Drivers " option. And second, when you get the Audio Driver Error, just select Use Anyway.

    As for suggestions. Get yourself a copy of XP and install that instead. Stay away from 64bit unless you like having headaches. And last but not least, get rid of the Soundblaster. They're good for playing games with and not so good for recording. Buy a decent interface.

    SB cards typically have crappy WDM drivers. either use MME driver mode or download ASIO4ALL and use ASIO. to change driver modes:
    OPTIONS>AUDIO>ADVANCED>DRIVER MODE = MME
    close sonar
    restart sonar
    let the wave profiler run

    using ASIO4ALL:
    download and install asio4all (google it)
    then change to ASIO driver mode:
    OPTIONS>AUDIO>ADVANCED>DRIVER MODE = ASIO
    close sonar
    restart sonar

    wave profiler not necessary for ASIO mode.

    Well, switching to MME atleast got it to use the card. Even with buffers set to high lengths it still seems very buggy and drops out almost instantly. Thanks for the info chefmike. Will have to e-bay the X-fi.

    I had the same problem, and this solution worked for me as well. My thanks to chefmike and beagle.
