SD2 + Convert MIDI Clip to Step Sequencer

SD2 +
What is the correct procedure to get a Superior Drummer 2 MIDI clip to convert to a step sequence?
I know it sounds like an idiotic query, but right clicking and selecting "Convert MIDI Clip to Step Sequencer" is not working.
The clip is not a loop. If it is a loop it does not present the convert option.
...okay some more testing. It does convert to a step sequence, but the "steps" and Rows are not visible.

Try opening the clip in the Step Sequencer with the menu in the upper right-hand corner of the clip.

I don't know what happened but the first image posted was blank, and then BAM!

(seriously, I really do try to research tutorials and solve before posting.)
...So why would it not just show the step right away?
hmmmm, my guess is it is "scrolled out of view."

When I looked at the first image I saw that it had 32 beats on that SS. First thing I thought about was scrolling around. Using Midi patterns that I drop into SS sometimes acted funny. They worked, but there was some weirdness that I attributed to my own user error.

    This works:
    1. Select Midi Clip
    2. Convert to Step Sequence (open step sequencer)
    3. Drag/Drop midi clip onto SS
    4. Scroll mouse wheel to get notes to show
