SD-5- Mobile Sound Canvas as a Sonar Controller

This appears to be easy but I cannot work out how to use my SD-50 to control my Sonar X1 DAW Software.
The SD-50 manual says the the Play/Stop/Fwd/Bck/Shuttle can be used to control a DAW. And sure enough "SD-50 Control" appears as a Midi I/O. And my Sonar midi track can listen to all these control messages via midi Ch1 of the "SD-50 Control". So that's all looking good. What I want of course is to press Play on the SD-50 and have Sonar "Play". Sounds simple but have got nowhere. I assume I want to install a Cakewalk Generic Control surface (ACT). But nothing responds. ACT learn mode does not seem to hear the SD-50 control messages. Any suggestions are most appreciated? Thanks
