SE R1 Ribon Mics Used for Drum over heads ? Whats your thoughts ?

Hi all

I am looking for a bit of advice

I have come across a good deal on a set of SE R1 Ribon Mics http://www.seelectronics.com/R1_Ribbon.html

I know very little about mics so I wont lie about it.

Has any one any thoughts about useing 2 of them as drum over heads and one for a room mic ?

They are to good a price to pass up and I hear they are great for micing Guitar cabs and accoustic guitar and also good for vocals but as for drums Ive not had any feedback on them

Can anyone please give me there thoughts ?

I am needing to buy Over heads for the drums anyway and I plan to buy the SE R1 so I am hopeing they will do the job and will save me havieng to buy more mics

Thanks for any advice on this like I said I know little about mics so any help is good help :)

Thanks to all

Norrie

I've never heard that particular ribbon mic.

But people have been using ribbon mics on drum overheads for decades - no problem.  The "go-to" mic for a lot of guys is the Coles 4038.

I've often used a Royer 121 or Beyer Dynamic M160 as overheads.  Love them.

Higher frequencies are a bit more tame with the ribbon mics, but you can always dial it up if needed.

    I say....give it a shot.

    Yea, Norrie,

ribbons for OH is a classic.  Doesn't mean yours will work with your kit, but it ain't a crapshoot.  I've had success with pzm's, too.  Not the cheap ones, but nice crowns.  But if you can get them at a good price it should be worth it - ribbons on OH, guitar cabs, even vocals.

Are those the new ribbons?  SOS had a good review of them if they are.  More top end than most ribbons.

    Awesome thanks for the links!

I just dont know a lot about mics so any info is good but I thought they might be a good choice for in the studio for cabs vocals and like I said 2 on over heads and 1 as a room mic when recording drum parts :)

    Thanks guys
