SFZ file info???

I need a bit of clarification on the SFZ files. Are the SFZ's in Dim Pro the same as in Roland sound fonts ? Can a SFZ be a FM or a wave? If so is this why the difference in quality, where a .wav sample or FM might be an 8 bit or 16 bit.
Now if I were to get very ambitious and climb that old tree in my back yard this spring and record the chirping of some birds in a nest, what SFZ software would I use to made a sample for use in Dim Pro, assuming I didn't fall and break my neck.
OldNick, have a great New Year, just saw the fireworks in Sydney at the harbor on the news and to every one else, Wyndham

    Read this : http://web.archive.org/web/20060516203518/www.rgcaudio.com/sfzformat.htm

SFZ files are basically text instructions that tell the sampler playing the SFZ (Rapture, Dim Pro, SFZ+, etc) what files to play, and how to play them. The files are not imbedded as part of the SFZ file itself.

.sfz files are plain text files that can be edited with Windows notepad or any text editor. These contain directives that tell Dimension Pro (or Rapture or the other Expression Engine-baseed synths) where to load their multisample (.wav, .aiff, or .ogg) audio files from, and how to respond to MIDI commands, and many other things. They are not related to SoundFont or SF2 files at all.

Check out this book for a lot of good information on programming Dimension Pro and the other Cakewalk synthesizers: Cakewalk Synthesizers: From Presets to Power User.

Also, check out the various articles and links at the Dimension Pro section and the Rapture section of the Project5 Wiki as there is some information about programming these synths and SFZ files there as well.

And the official source (though not current) of SFZ Format information is Cakewalk SFZ Specification which contains a lot of information about how to create .sfz files.
