S-Gear and Sonar 4

Yeah, still running Sonar 4; it's been working well enough, thanks; but as I was trying out the 15 day demo version (S-Gear)I found that it worked as a stand alone but would not show up in the effects bin to "add" to some existing tracks. Scuffham indicated that they didn't try it all out with Sonar 4, and thought that if it showed up in the effects list (it did) it should be "in-sertable" on an existing track. Tried rescanning the folders~still no-workee other than as a stand alone. I really like it; but up-dating/up-grading is out of the question financially. Anyone get this to work as a plug-in in Sonar 4? My trial period ended. Thanks for listening.

I use it as my goto in Sonar5. I don't think there's anything substantively different between 4 and 5 that would make it not work.

Make sure it installed itself in a folder that SONAR is scanning. Some plugins default to \program files\steinberg\vstplugins, which is not a problem as long as you add it to the location list in Plugin Manager.

Another possible reason for a new plugin not showing up is that you've exceeded the limit for the number of plugins. If you think that might be the case, try moving one of your least-used plugins out of the vstplugins folder into some temporary place and re-scan.

Another possibility is you've installed the 64-bit version rather than the 32-bit version.

I've also (rarely) seen plugins install in a disabled state. When that happens, go into Plugin Manager and check the box to show disabled plugins and enable it.

Also make sure it didn't install itself in a subdirectory that's not obvious when you open the context menu that you insert plugins from. It might actually be there, just buried in a submenu.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks so much for the response. I didn't know about the plug-in limit. Yes, there's a lot of them in there. Since the 15 day trial limit has expired, I'll dump some of the plugs and try it again. I believe the proper folders are being scanned. Will check the box in Plug-in Manager. Thank you again for your knowledge!

Keep one thing in mind, S-Gear installs only the 64-bit version by default, you have to select the 32-bit version if you want that installed also.... or vice-versa, I can't remember.
