I always love the space in your mixes - wish I knew how you do that.

Many of your works remind me of Gordon Giltrap - very evocative and ideally suited to a travelogue style video in my mind. This is no exception - another mental trip to somewhere exotic. Very nice.

Larry, the acoustic work is smokin'.

James, excellent stuff.  I got the feeling of a journey through woods and fields.  Very much like my favorite stuff of SMB.

I love the fact you sucumb to the commerical interest.  I try not to but I make concessions... I'm weak.

Very, very nice.

Thanks Paulo, used to like Giltrap way back when, we'll take that compliment As far as space in the mix goes, there's nothing very unusual in this one, just a bus with Sonitus reverb for the guitars and one for the pecussion, then varying degrees of send for each instrument. Appreciate the kind words.

Daryl, thanks very much. I'm not sure w'd know 'commecial' from a 'hole in the ground' these days, we just does what we does.

I meant to say that you do NOT sucumb to commercial interests.  I guess leaving out one word really changes the message

Hi James and Larry - As I've mentioned elsewhere, I have been out of touch for a while and it's taking me some time to catch up. Good thing I arrived back when I did or I would have missed this gem! This is delicious! That guitar pattern really drives this piece. Reminiscent of the Modern Folk I used to listen to back in the 60's and 70's and particularly Pentangle. But this piece takes that style to a whole new level of excellence. The performance is stunning, the creative concept outstanding. But that is always the SMB! Wonderful.

pistolpete

Once you've heard the first measure, pretty much you've heard the entire song. The overuse of the wind chimes got old rather quickly. The main lead tone sounded too much like a fake violin.

Ah my old friend dickhead pete, got another unwarented opinion.  Can I hear some of your music pete??? No I didn't think so.

Hey James, nice playing.  I like the tune.  I'm with Shad I would like those guitars brought forward a little.  The track for me lacks a little punch but the guitar tone is really nice.

I feel the track needed to go somewhere or into a 2nd part but I like what you have.

Peace Ben

Thanks very much Malcolm, Pentangle is a very compliment, gratefully accepted! Glad you enjoyed this.

Thanks Ben, appreciate the nice words and comments. As far as the 'other thing' goes, best to ignore, in my opinion.

I have to say with all honesty:
how do you guys keep doing the same thing (guitar-based instrumentals) and yet they are all so different?

How do you come up with this stuff?

As usual, in awe of your creativity.

Another wonderful piece from SMB. I did hear a bit of an odd transition at about 1:42/43 that didn't seem to fit in well, but it could just be these old ears of mine playing tricks on me. I did give you guys 4 stars and think with just a tad more work on the overall production (a tweek here and there) would bring this piece to the top of the charts. Great sound guys and see if you can throw in some mellow drum sounds with this one. Peace be with you both. Blessings, John

Meant to comment on this before James...had some connection issues...sorry man.

I really liked this piece...the playing and atmosphere was great...agree with Frank's comment as well as MGH's. Would like to hear a little more movement in the changes...like, maybe a different sequence of chords or something. Though it does repeat a bit, it's not a "c'mon man....change it up will ya?!" type of repeat. It's got really good stuff going on in the back that doesn't even make anyone notice unless you have your arrangement hat on. As a common listener, this took me on a nice journey brother. Loved the playing and solo as well as the sounds of everything...especially the acoustic.

The arranger in me would like to see a few more chord voicing changes...you know, to sort of give it an increment and decrement of moodiness? It sort of keeps the same vibe which is also a good thing...but I like it when a song plays with my emotions a little bit. Again, what you have isn't a bad thing at all...I sat back and listened and just took it all in. Third time around was even better. Well done guys!

-Danny

Thanks Danny, really appreciate the listen and the comments. We were trying a little exercise in keeping it simple on this one, maybe that was a bad call, not sure. Instrumentals do need to keep the interest up, that's for sure. Glad the mood came across though, and thanks again for the kind words.

No problem brother! Well yeah, keeping things simple is always a plus. Sometimes you lose the feel when you try to do too much...kinda like 4 cooks trying to make soup in the same pot. LOL!

I think you do keep interest in this...however, try this for me and see if you hear what I hear.

Click on your link, allow it to load, and then randomly press somewhere in the locator part. You'll notice that just about always, it will land on the same note or the same passage. This is not a bad thing....but in my own creations, I find that anything repeating for over a minute starts to sound a little too much like maybe I just jammed instead of wrote...know what I mean? I'm not implying that here on your tune....I'm just saying that though we can keep interest with a progression (Jeff Evans has a good drone song up that stays on one note yet totally changes atmosphere every once in a while) it's nice to add a few little changes to further enforce the mood you have created as well and give the listener some highs and maybe even low points.

It's definitely a killer piece bro...please don't take what I'm saying the wrong way. :) I just think even if you would have kept the same thing going and changed chords or modulated that it would have helped it a bit. But there are no rules that state you ever need to do that and my listening experience on this tune was a good one. It just that sometimes those additional movements or chord changes we can add in, further paint the picture and mess with our moods more...if that makes any sense? :)
