[SOLVED] A way to avoid message about memory is getting low ?

Hi,

I use Eastwest Composer Kontact version (32 bits) and I would like to know if there's a way to avoid the message "WARNING: memory is getting low. This may caude dropouts or other artefacts!" ?

I use Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits, Sonar X1 64 with 12 Gb of RAM and I don't want for money and ilock reasons to go to Play version excepted if someone convinces me that there's a real interest (more than keyswitches).

Thanks.

Is there a 64 bit version which will address more memory? (or contact Eastwest in case of any reported bugs).

The 64 bits version comes with the Play version of Eastwest banks. That means buy again Complete composer cause Kontakt banks don't work with Play.

You need to reduce Kontakt's memory usage. There are many strategies for doing that, although not all of them will be appropriate in every situation. (Caveat: I only use full Kontakt, not the Kontakt player, so I don't know if all of these options are available to you.)

First of all, make sure you're not loading samples that you won't be using. For example, if you only need legato violins, only load the legato sample set rather than the larger instrument that includes all articulations.

You can also purge unused samples. Although this won't help you when Kontakt is first starting up, if your low-memory warning is coming up after Kontakt initializes, then you can trim the RAM usage way, way down by purging. Why load the bottom and top octaves of your piano if you aren't going to actually play them? Why spend memory on a staccato articulation if your violin part is legato?

If you're getting the warning during initialization, there is an option on the "Load" tab that tells Kontakt to load instruments initially in the purged state. You then must play the song once through so Kontakt can determine which samples are needed.

You can also try reducing the DFD preload buffer size (I assume you're running in DFD mode). This dictates how much of each sample gets loaded into RAM initially. Go to the Kontakt options screen, to the Memory tab. Unless your drives are very slow, you can usually reduce that size quite a lot without hurting performance.

If reducing Kontakt's memory requirement doesn't do the trick, the only other strategy is to make more RAM available by freezing other synths.

One more thought...I haven't ever tried this, but I understand that JBridge will let you run 32-bit plugins in their own address space. In theory that should allow each 32-bit Kontakt instance a full 2 GB of RAM, even in 32-bit SONAR. Maybe somebody who's actually done this can comment or elaborate.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks bitflipper for your answer. I have the RAM to handle my projects (12 Gb) but as Kontakt version of Eastwest samples is and always be a 32 bits version, I have the warning. So, when I load a project with many instances of Kontack players (from Symphonic Choirs etc...), each time an instance is loaded, I have the warning and I would like to just click once on my project to open it. I'll try to use Kontakt 5 Free Player to manage my Eastwest soundbanks and see if it's possible to have the same features as the dedicated Kontakt samplers.

Ok, Kontakt 5 Player did the trick. I miss the velocity curve per instrument but it sounds pretty the same as the dedicated Kompakt (yes, I thought it was Kontakt but it's Kompakt) samplers.
