SOLVED: Anyone know how I can extract audio from an AVI file?
Need to get the audio out from an avi file, anyone know any good prgs for this? I tried Audacity, but it crashes on me :-(

Fixed, AoA free audio extractor works a peach  But Sonar has just decided to stop working. FFS!

I'd like to find something that allows me to silence the audio in a video clip, so that I could then lay down my own audio track.
I tried it in Windows movie maker and the audio from the video cam was audible....

The best program I have ever used for extracting audio and changing formats is Format Factory. And ... it's free! It supports flac, wav, ogg, you can rip DVD's. All kinds of conversions. I can't believe they don't charge for it. Format Factory Download

As Eotm mentioned, Sonar will do it, as will Music Creator 5.
You can work with the audio, just as you would any other audio track.
In your case Herb, just set the volume to -INF, and add your other tracks to suit.

No spam intended, it was a geniune question, sorry if it came across otherwise. I needed to get the audio ripped off from a recording from my camera set in movie mode. Audacity crashed, Sonar wouldn't play it back. Sorted in the end, it was a sample rate problem.

He was referring to some people with fake accounts who have been posting links to DVD & Blu-Ra ripping software they were selling. I kept replying to their posts with links to Format Factory saying it was free and did the same thing just to piss them off. :)

I know that, and did not intend to sound like I was blasting you.... I got the "Rips DVD" thing from it's info sheet on it's web site. I know you're not a spammer..... your post count is WAY to high for a spammer.
