[SOLVED] Frozen Instrument and Effect Screens - Help!

Hi All.

After a long time away from my music I returned to it after installing X1. I never used effects or synth instruments much except for SessionDrummer and PerfectSpace and Vintage sometimes. I'm not a big experimenter so I just tended to use presets.

I find that my effects from the FX box or the Instruments screens respond to the first click on controls but after that the screenlets are unresponsive. The mouse actions are being recognised but not reflected. This applies to VST sonnitus, Sound Center, Dimension and SessionDrummer2 & 3. Basically my VST plug-ins I think.

I have this problem in 8.5 and in X1b B255. I remember noticing something in Session drummer originally - way back when - but not the other instruments and effects. The presets or program load parts of these plug-ins still work fine.

I'm on Windows XP pro 32bit SP3, (full updates)
Intel P4 2.4GHz; 1G Ram

I'll be checking out the DXi stuff to see if it's the same.

I've reported the problem but I think it's something in my system that has changed and I don't know what. Anyone any ideas?

Regards,

SJ

Just confirmation that I have the same problem with DXi plug-ins.

However the stand-alone version of Dimension Pro works just fine. Also, if I turn knobs and press buttons in a plug-in window the changes aren't displayed but if I close the plug-in and open it up again, the changes are there and on display.

It seems like main windows (Console, Track, browser etc) are fine, but subordinate windows such as with plug ins, aren't being refreshed.

Anyone any clues? Even the right words/phrases to use to google this would be helpful. e.g. what are subordinate windows or plug-ins in IT parlance?

    Thanks in advance.

On advice from Cakewalk support, the solution turned out to be - disable all the start-up services.

    This worked a treat.

I've since re-enabled most that I can remember but the problem hasn't reappeared so I can't point a finger at any one service specifically.

Thanks to all who took any time to think about my problem, even if you couldn't contribute.

    Regards,
