(SOLVED) How to insert a Pedal "on" and "off" in Piano Roll View MIDI Event Pane

Hi. Hope someone can help. I have a midi bass performance that's triggering a Scarbee Rick bass in Kontakt player. I'm trying to insert a number of sustain pedal on/offs to trigger a certain performance articulation.

I'm in PRV, where note velocities are showing in the bottom pane as normal.  I see where I can add a "64-Pedal (sustain)" as a MIDI event type pane. I'm leaving it on "Control" as the Type and Channel 1.

I click "OK" to create the new pane for the MIDI event, but I can't figure out how to insert the events? What do I do next?

Thanks in advance!

If the smart tool is selected, you should be able to drag/draw events into the pane.
If "Snap To" is enabled, then the events will only appear on snap divisions.
You can draw events with values from 0 to 127 and any value over 64 will be "Sustain down" and any value under 64 will be "Sustain up".
At least, that is how it appears to work for me.

Assuming you have controller 64 lane visible in the PRV...  if you have the smart-tool enabled.. Normally, you drag across to enter a series of controller events.  However, in this case, only a single event is needed.  Hold down ALT while left clicking to enter a single controller event in the controller lane.   Normally, a value of 0 to 62 is sustain off and 64 or above is sustain on.

I do this in Event List. Just add a CC event, set it to 64, 0=pedal off, 127=pedal. People don't use Event List enough in my opinion. you can do a whole lot there very easily.

You can also use a real keyboard sustain pedal and record it real time.

Thank you for the tip. I'm getting closer! I held down ALT and left-clicked where I wanted to insert the "sustain pedal on" in the CC:64 MIDI Event lane. It inserted that "pedal on" from that point forward -- to the very end of all the MIDI notes in PRV. Does that sound right? I'm in the Smart tool and Snap is off.

I can ALT-left-click at points further along on the PRV timeline and insert another CC message and drag that to "on" or "off" depending on the value (as you note). That event then extends to the very end, replacing the original one. This approach will probably work, but with a lot more fuss. It would be great if I could insert on/offs surgically, as you suggest.

It sounds like that is exactly what you ARE doing.

You only need 1 each ON & OFF cc, then just copy, set timeline location & paste them where you want.
