[SOLVED] Mix recall not working in 2017.01
Hey there was just trying to set up a comparison between two mixes and mix recall is not working. Using the drop-down menu and save as new scene does work and progresses up as in I am now saving Mix 6 but there is no option to recall any of the previous mixes or see any way to recall mixes. Recall previous scene is greyed out as is also rename seen, delete scene, delete all scenes. Can someone make a suggestion as to what the problem might be? Sorry for the formatting I am posting from my Droid phone because I've got my audio partition booted and am not able to use my computer to get to the forum. Thank you!

Thanks It's not critical to get it working but it would be helpful in this situation. Maybe someone else will know what is wrong or suggest some things to try.

Here's an afterthought Is it possible that it is because the project was started in a previous version of sonar? Specifically X3.

It doesn't work at all for me either. Everything's greyed out except for "reset mix" and "Mix Recall Settings" in the drop down menu. I've tried opening brand new projects and it doesn't do anything.

Works correctly! But I do not understand what does "mix recall" in Sonar x3. Function "mix recall" is much newer ...

Would that folder be located in "Cakewalk Content" and if it's not there could we create it? And would it then find it? I'll Experiment.

Look in your project folder. You should see the .cwp file of the project itself, the Audio folder containing the audio in the project, and a MixScenes folder containing your Mix Scenes. I highly recommend creating a separate folder for each project, and saving your .cwp file into that. Then all your project-related elements, as listed above, will appear in that folder and the MixScenes folder will be created automatically. However if you do not create a Mix Scene before closing a project, then the MixScenes folder will go away (although one will be created again when you re-open the project). I recommend saving a Mix Scene before you close a project anyway so you have the state of the mix preserved if you want to return to it at some point. For me, MixScenes has been stable and predictable.

Do to my workflow from my many years of using Sonar, I still use a global audio folder for a series of projects. Not "per-project" folders. Perhaps this is my problem. I wonder if there is a workaround for my style of saving projects. I'm currently storing my files on "Onedrive" and just checked it out. It has an Audio folder but no MixScenes folder. I'll try adding it to see what happens.

I think that explains it. There is no such thing as a global MixScenes folder. They are associated with projects. The global audio folder harkens back to the days when hard drives were measured in megabytes, not gigabytes or terabytes. We no longer live in that world and I strongly advise getting into the habit of saving projects in their own folders. This makes backing up and sharing projects much easier and more efficient. Of all the ways to save projects - and SONAR offers numerous options - I believe saving individual .cwp files and using a Global audio folder is by far the least desirable option. Think of it has a library with only one book that has hundreds of thousands of pages, compared to a library with separate books, each with hundreds of pages.

Just to add the the confusion. Opening a project, SONAR attempts to create a MixScenes folder. If no MixScenes are created, the folder will be deleted when the project is closed. Once Mix Scenes are created they are written to the MixScenes folder and the folder is no longer removed on exit. Each time a Mix Scene is created the Mixn counter in the project is incremented whether the scene reference is saved in the project or not. Projects must be saved at least once after Mix Scenes are created for the project to keep track of the scenes. If the project is not saved after creating Mix Scenes, the scenes are not available to the project.

The Mix Scenes Folder is always visible when the project is open. It gets created in what ever folder I'm working in next to the project file. It then disappears when sonar is closed, probbly because no scenes have been created.

Actually there can be a MixScenes folder created in the "Project Files" folder set in Preferences > File > Folder Locations that acts like a global folder for projects not using default per-project audio file structure. The "Project Files"\MixScenes folder follows the same rules I detailed above.

That might be the issue ... i.e. that I didn't save the project after creating a mix scene. I'll give it an other try next chance.

Yeah, without saving the project, the scene names are lost. Projects do not scan MixScenes folders instead rely on data in the project file for active MixScene file names.

Yes, but it's not created automatically nor can there be association with specific projects. I wouldn't encourage anyone to avoid using per-project folders, it really makes life so much easier.

The preference setting was removed. The feature now depends on how projects are created/saved. The cleanest way is never use CTRL+N or the "On Startup load Default Template" setting in Preferences > File > Advanced. If you do, make sure to check the "Copy all audio with project" in the "Save As" dialog when initially saving the project and also specify a new folder in the Project Path entry.

I believe it follows the rules just like per-project folders. At least does on my machine. If the folder does not exist when opening a project in "Project Folder" directory, MixScenes is created in the "Project Folder" directory. If Mix Scenes are not saved the folder is removed. If the MixScenes folder is populated, it remains. MixScenes files names use the project name as part of the scene name. To the extent project files are unique in the "Project Folder" directory, there are no clashes in the MixScenes folder either. That said, I agree per-project folders are a better way to go.

It works when I follow the above directions. I guess its hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I've got a template that loads when I start Sonar. I'll need to figure out how to make a template that works with mix recall.

I'm going to have to guess that my issue is the project in question was started in X3 and then moved to splat. It has been saved a few trimes since I attempted to create a few mix scenes. I just opened it again and attempted to create an other mix scene and it wants to call it Mix 7 so it is remembering that I've tried to use it but on closing the project there is no Mix Scenes folder and menu is still greyed out in ways that make recalling, renaming or deleting unavailabe. So I'm gonna call this one solved for me. Thanks for talking about it.

Hmm...not sure it sounds "solved" to me, or you'd be able to use Mix Recall. What happens if you create a per-project folder, create a MixScenes folder inside it, open the project, and save a Mix Scene? Next, make a change in the automation, save another Mix Scene, then save the project. What happens?

With this particular project nothing.
I tried it on a newly created project and it works. No need to manually create the Mix Scene folder. Sonar does that.
That's why I'm concluding that it doesn't necessarily work on projects created in previous versions that didn't have Mix Scenes.

Yes ... I always version up every session like SongName_1a.cwp 1b, 1c, 2g, 5x etc. I've saved atleast 4 versions since I started this thread.
The one that works is in its own project folder.

Are you saying the one that does not work is not using a per-project audio folder? When I was asking about the folder location of the project that does not work, I mean is it in the same path as the working project. I would expect them to be in separate folders.
