SOLVED! Nasty Buzzing when stopping some projects after x1b install.

When using ASIO drivers (not a problem with WDM) I get a nasty buzzing when stopping some projects.

Solution:
Check "Play Effect Tails After Stopping" in Preference>Audio>Playback and Recording
and the ASIO drivers will work just fine...

It's all outlined here: Setting up Windows 7 SonarX1b and the Tascam FW-1884

The buzzing is not controlled by the Master fader.
This effects only some projects; no rhyme or reason that I can find for which are effected.
Win 7x64, Sonar X1b Producer 32 bit.
Audio Interface Tascam FW-1884, latest drivers etc. etc.
Everything was fine prior to running the x1a and x1b patches.
Everything is fine after rolling Windows back to the pre a&b image.

Anyone else with ASIO driver issues?

Thanks,
Tom

I was able to use X1 for a week with Asio Drivers than out of the blue I got the noise, In 8.5.3 I have had no issue's at all with the Tascam Via Asio drivers. X1 a and B were not usable at all with ASIO drivers.. WDM did work but I had some weird latency problems , I use the tascam Now just a a control surface.

Tom, I just saw your post over on the Tascam User's Forum.  I do not use ASIO; I have always had better results with SONAR and the FW-1884 by using WDM.  My X1B is working fine with the Tascam using WDM (as you already discovered).

    Matt,
I've used both drivers over the years, little lower latency with the ASIO drivers.
This is the first time I've ever had a problem.

    Charlie,
My first shout out was to Cake tech support.
I just sent an email to Jim.
Who do you think will respond first?

    Adrian,
Does switching to WDM drivers solve the problem?
Have you opened a tech support ticket?
Do you get the buzz only on stopping the project?
I had at least one instance of a "buzz" when triggering notes in Dim Pro I think; unfortunately I didn't document that.

X1a created a problem with a few ASIO interfaces, evidently X1b still has some issues.

So far X1 continues to work fine with the ASIO drivers.

I don't use WDM drivers because of latency. But I made some exeriments with using Asio4all drivers to connect "as one" two interfaces: Edirol M16-DX and Edirol UA-1000.
Works very good, but latency is still not as little as when I use ASIO.
One good thing of the Asio4all is, that I have 26 ins and 10 outs at once, so - when mixing - I can use external FX processors as inserts.

And - back to your question - I have this "buzz" just sometimes, when pressing STOP button I'm almost sure that it has something to do with audio buffers.

I had this same problem and was about to trash my Tascam FW-1884 because of it. However doing some research on set up in X1 I found that by clicking "play effects tails after stopping" in driver settings fixed the issue. I have had no problems with this since. Hopefully this solves your issues. I know it would have saved me a couple of days of stress.

I found that in (P)references, Audio, Playback and Recording.  Mine has the checkmark, although I'm using WDM.  I am reasonably certain I never altered this setting (because I had no clue what it did) and it must have been on by default.

I was only having the buzzing when I was using ASIO drivers, When I used WDM drivers it seemed to work fine. It was strange that when I cycled the record button on and off the buzzing would go away until I played audio and then stopped it again. It seems like I have been fighting this tascam animal since I got it quite a few years ago. It seems to be working happily with X1 now except the EQ section of course. Oh well you can't always get what you want.

Well, it has been announced that it will no longer be supported by Tascam, but at least there are drivers for the most current Microsoft and Apple OS versions.  We're OK for a while longer.

LOL! unfortunately I think this one was the last checkbox I tried

Actually I just happened to notice the checkbox's in this FW-1884 setup tutorial, .... the third time I read through it.

I would be really surprised if that weren't just a coincidence that this one checkbox matters in this dialog as shown in the tutorial.  Anyway, good going.

    To All,
"play effects tails after stopping" was NOT checked in X1 and I am having no issues.
I ran projects that were/are a problem in X1b, with and without it checked, no issues.
I had the FW connected to my Win7x32 computer today running Sonar 8.5.3 and I had no issues with or without "play effects tails" checked.
I'm about to update to X1b and give things a whirl.

    To All,
Just installed X1a, you MUST check "play effects tails after stopping" to avoid the buzzing when using ASIO drivers.
    You ARE THE MAN eelsong!!
The patch breaks the driver (or whatever is the problem), the FW is NOT the problem!

X1b installed and all is good!

    "> Sounds like the: Tascam FW-1884, is done/over.. "

    Far from that...

While the FW will never reach the "classic" status of some of the gear I own

it certainly has a lot of life left.

    Eelsong, thanks again!

    YES!
The ASIO drivers are working just fine with "Play Tails" checked!

No response from Cake Tech Support yet.
