[SOLVED] Only 32-bit Addictive Drum and Addictive Keys showing in Plugins

I'm working on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine with Sonar Professional. I thought I downloaded 64 bit versions (it doesn't look like the Addictive online downloader gives you a choice), but only the 32 bit are showing up, and I don't know why. I have some AD and the Grand Piano of AK. Is the another place I can look for the 64-bit versions with the Plugin Manager?

Thanks for any help and Happy New Year!

I think the x86 and x64 AD2 versions have a different online installer.
    https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013382/Addictive-Drums-2-Installation-Instructions
I just used the XLN website to d/l the installer rather than the Cakewalk links. IIRC you pick the x64 from the online installer.

    Edited:
I just looked on my studio PC for the XLN online installer.
When you install the XLN online installer, it gives you a x86 and an x64 installer. Run the x64.
I never used the x86 but it is still there.

Yes, I did use the 64-bit installer. The problem seems to come because the XLN installer gives me an error during the download saying that the paths for the 32-bit and 64-bit are the same, which is not allowed. I then changed the path for the 64-bit. It seems like it installed both the 32-bit and the 64-bit, and Sonar is defaulting to the 32-bit file path for the plugin?

Yes. Have the 64-bit version installed.

I notice that Addictive Drums and Keys aren't the only 32-bit plugins in the . So is Cakewalk Sound Center, Drop Zone, RXP and a bunch of others. Maybe it's a file-path issue? During the XLN download session, I was given an error statement initially, saying that the file paths for VST32 and VST64 were the same (these were set by XLN by default it seems, as I didn't do anything but click the Install button in the downloader.

I left the default path for VST32 c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins (that was set by XLN in the downloader)

I changed the VST64 installation path to c:\program files (x86)\cakewalk\VST plug ins

NOTE: the differences in space and capitalization in the file paths are exactly as they read. BUT, I can see in the Sonar plugin manager that the Addictive Drums file path is this: c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\Addictive Drums 2.dll, which is confusing, as that is not what I set the installation file path to.

Same for the Addictive Keys plugin. In the plugin manager, it says the file path is this c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\Addictive Keys.dll. Again, that's NOT the installation file path I set on the XLN installer.

Not sure what's going on. Maybe I should uninstall and reinstall?

It sounds like you have duplicate installation of the VST dlls. If Plug-in Manager is referencing an incorrect folder, browse to it in File Explorer and delete the dlls (or rename them to *.xdllx or similar to prevent the scan from seeing them). Plug-in manager may even automatically correct itself at this point. If not, run a fresh scan yourself.

If this does not fix things, the XLN installer has a neat function to allow you to change the location of the respective VSTs. When you specify a new location, it automatically moves the necessary files. Use it to make sure that you know exactly where the VSTs are installed. Then run Sonar's Plug-in Manager: firstly, ensure that the paths to the VSTs are included in the scan; then run a fresh scan. You can verify that the 64-bit versions are being used by finding the plug in the VST inventory in Plug-in Manager after the scan and checking that it is referencing the folder that you specified in the XLN installer.

BTW, in general, capitalisation is ignored in path names - it is only there to improve legibility for us humans - so you can write the paths with or without capitals with impunity.

Looks like you've got these the wrong way around.

The Program Files (X86) path is for 32 bit plugins
The path for 64 bit is just Program Files

The convention around Program Files for 64-bit and Program Files (X86) for 32-bit is certainly true for executables, but I suspect that the particular location of the VST dlls makes no difference as long as they are in a path that is scanned. I think here that OP has managed to get duplicates installed and that the 64-bit dlls are simply not being scanned because they are in a folder that is not scanned.

Re: Only 32-bit Addictive Drum and Addictive Keys showing in Plugins 2016/01/04 18:29:17 (permalink)
Thanks so much for the feedback and suggestions! Still figuring all this stuff out. So I uninstalled/reinstalled AD and AK and made the file path for the 64-bit the regular "program files" path. That seemed to take care of the Addictive products, which now are listed as simple Addictive Drums 2 and Addictive Keys in my plugins.

But I still have other 32-bit in the plugins/instruments, including Cakewalk Sound Center, DropZone, RXP, rgcAudio Square. Don't those come with Sonar? And shouldn't they all be 64-bit if I installed the x64 version of Sonar?

The path for the Cakewalk Sound Center is c:\program files (x86)\cakewalk\vstplugins\cakewalk sound center\CakewalkSoundCenter.dll. That is the only place the .dll is located; no corresponding path to c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\cakewalk sound center\CakewalkSoundCenter.dll in the Plugin manager.

The other two file paths are:
    c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\DropZone\DropZone.dll
    c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\RXP\RXP.dll

I don't even see rgc Audio Square listed in the plugin manager.

Cakewalk did not port those plug-ins to 64bit. They are all 32bit plug-ins. So they show up as 32bit regardless of the host installed.
