[SOLVED] Problem Getting Audio Interfaces to Work with Sonar X3e Producer

On a Lenovo Intel i5 Laptop running Windows 7, I can't seem to get Sonar X3 Producer to use the Audio Drivers I have installed

I've hooked up a Tascam US-2x2 (it even comes bundled with X3 LE!!)  and sometimes the devices shows up, but it doesn't' actually work.  A lot of the time it doesn't even show up at all within X3.

Same situation with a Zoom H6 using the ASIO multi track drivers.

On the Same computer:  Reason 8, Ableton Live 9 light, EZ Drummer, Beatstation, Drum Core 3, all work with the installed drivers + interface.  Sonar X3 is the only one experiencing problems.

Any insight into what the problem might be?  I've tried everything I can think of, including reinstalling Sonar.

When you say "drivers don't show up," do you mean within SONAR, or the preferences menu? Also, if you alternate using other programs with SONAR, sometimes other programs will "hold on" to the drivers and sometimes SONAR will as well.

    Try this:

    1. Make sure you have the latest firmware and drivers installed for the 2x2 from the TASCAM web site.
    2. Restart your computer without the 2x2 attached.
    3. After the computer has booted, plug in the 2x2.
    4. Open SONAR.
    5. Go to preferences. What do you see under device and driver settings?

    Hi Craig,
Followed steps 1-5.  There is nothing under device and driver settings (though I realize there should be the US-2x2)

I can open the Tascam driver dialog box (outside of Sonar) and it shows the device as connected.

I typically open Sonar 1st (as it is the program that I actually want to use).  Then I'll close it and try another program - such as Reason Essentials, to see if that DAW sees it, and it works just fine.   Sonar however, does not.

I hope this might be the problem....

NeoSoul, if you have your 2x2 selected to play from the computer (windows media player, youtubes, website podcasts, or whatever...) Sonar will not see the audio device. I know this as I have uninstalled/disabled all other audio drivers aside from my Forte and sometimes will forget I'd assigned it to play a mixdown thru media player or watch a web demo/youtube.  When I fire up Sonar, if I haven't gone in and disabled forte from within right clicking the speaker icon,  sonar says, "There are no audio devices for the current driver model on your system.....blah blah blah...

I need to close sonar, right click the speaker icon on the lower right part of the desktop, which brings up a menu, click "playback devices" and rt click the only device I have functioning (my Forte), and click "disable".  This frees it up to be seen by sonar, so I can open sonar and everything opens up fine... Might wanna check to see if the 2x2 is assigned to the "record" section also in the speaker icon... and disable this.

Platinum seems to be a bit more finiky in automatically seeing the drivers in such a situation and sometimes I have to muck around.  X3 automatically sees them after I've disabled them from the speaker icon...

Just to check, look to see if your 2x2 drivers are "enabled for the speaker icon...

    Hope this is it...

    Dana

Vastman - I think that is the right direction.  I now have the device in Sonar and I can hear the metronome and inputs work.

I'm not getting sound from Addictive Drums 2 though (and no visuals on the meters.  However, other plugins such as True Pianos work fine.

Microapp- yes I'm using a 64 bit operating system as well as using the 64 bit version of x3e

Is there a way to point AD2 to the sound library if it gets moved on a hard drive?  I'm wondering if it is pointing to the wrong place as the interface works fine, but no sound.

Plugins that rely on content usually have some options mechanism to point to a new content path.  Some plugins have to go through a library 'rebuild' if the contents are moved.

I hope it is something simple like the above.  That's how a lot of the Native Instruments synths work, and many others too.

You have to use the AD2 online installer if ever you move the sound libraries around. In fact it will do it for you.

In fact if you've manually (used windows explorer) moved the sounds from where they were originally installed you need to move them back there. AD2 installer needs to know where they are and its last known location for the sounds was where they were installed.

Thanks.  I had them on an external drive, apparently the name changed.  I re-named it and that still didn't work.

I used the On-Line Installer which said it could not find the path (nor would it let me pick a new path even though there was clearly that option).  I ran an AD2 update for the program ~500 megs, and it seems to work this morning.
