[SOLVED] Question about "acidized" wav loops in Sonar (X1)

I don't use loops very much and I've run across this kind of problem every time I have.  I just bought a song construction kit from Big Fish Audio that offers acid formatted wav loops/files.   Each set of files has a folder name like "02 072 BMaj" or "03 104 EMaj".  I'm assuming the middle numbers are the tempos that I should be setting the project to.  But some of the bpm numbers are strange because they are not rounded off (072, 104, 98, 108, etc.)  So I'm wondering if they really ARE the suggested tempo settings?

But the real problem begins when I load the wav file and click on "Groove Clip Looping".  I've tried leaving the tempo at the default 120 and I've also tried changing the tempo to the suggested bpm according to the file name.  But then I get the clip playing very slow or very fast. It also changes the length (in the timeline) of the clip.  As soon as I turn the Groove Clip looping off that particular sampled audio, the tempo plays correctly again.

The way I've worked around this problem in the past is not to use Groove Clip Looping and just copy and paste the wav file over again.  But I know that's not how it's supposed to work.

I hope I explained this well enough for someone to tell me what I'm doing wrong here.

Thanks,
Lee

Give this a try for a loop:
    1. Apply Groove Clip Loop (Ctrl+L)
    2. With the Groove Clip selected/highlighted, hit SHIFT+L (This sets the loop point for repeat playback)
    3. Hit 'Play' in the transport
    4. Double click on the Groove Clip Loop > The Loop Construction tab should populate > Expand this view
    5. Locate the 'Beats In Clip' value (in the Loop Construction view) and +/- the beats
These steps will allow to audition a loop as you adjust the 'Beats In Clip' on the fly and hopefully get your desired tempo set.
Set the project tempo to suit your needs.

Hopefully, this might be of some use.

Thank you DJ, that helped a lot!  I'm still a little unsure about how everything works, but opening the Loop Construction view gave me access to information I needed to know.

I realized my first and biggest stupid mistake was that when I was moving the files from the Media Browser on to a track, the file was ALREADY set up as a Groove Clip!  So when I selected "Apply Groove Clip" I was actually turning it OFF.  DUH!

So I got that part figured out.  The Loop Construction window also shows me the Original BPM (which let me know they are labeled correctly in the file folders).  But for some reason I was getting a lower range of notes.  Then I realized that "Follow Pitch Project" was on.  I turned that off, and now the clip plays exactly the way it does in the Media Browser preview.  Which is what I wanted to begin with.  But at least now I know I can change things around (beat and pitch) and understand how to do it within the Loop Construction Window.

So thank you again!  I appreciate it.  Now off to play.....

    No problem, Leee!

I'm still unsure how some things work too, after years of using Sonar. The application is quite deep.

    Glad you got things going!
