***SOLVED*** - SONAR Platinum crashing on closing

Every time I close SONAR Platinum it shows a crash and the box comes up asking me if I should send the report which I did multiple times. This just started happening and it was after the latest update so I reverted. Same thing. Tried update again to latest version. Still happening.

Anybody else? Any ideas? I have been working in SONAR everyday and this just started happening yesterday.

Cheers,

Lance

Crash on exit is often plug-in related. If there are any 32bit plug-ins in the project they would be high on my list of suspects.

In this case, it crashes when I just open and close SONAR, no plugins loaded.

Being a veteran with SONAR, that was my first thought as well, plugins, so I did the test of not loading a project and just opening SONAR.
It shows a crash report box every time I close SONAR, no session loaded at all.

Thank you for the suggestion though! Much appreciated!

The Windows Event logs may contain information regarding the problem. If SONAR is generating a dump, open a ticket with support and send them the dump to inspect. Here is some additional information about dumps http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3475550

Hi Scook. Thank you for chiming in.

I was under the impression that the crash report box sends the dump no?
That was my hope when sending it and I selected to get updates on the report when I did send it.

I posted in the forum as well as I have not visited in a while in case other people had experienced this recently given the recent SONAR update.

    Cheers,

There is a tool that sends crash reports to Cakewalk. You may get a faster reply from support if you follow up with a trouble ticket. Personally, I have not had a crash on exit in some time. I suggested a common cause above based on the information provided in the OP. Maybe some one else has another idea.

Yeah I had not had a crash in as long as I can remember until this suddenly came up.

    Here the same.
We have running SONAR on several laptops. One laptop is recording music cassettes. SONAR is crashing without any plugin - just audio. In this case its up to the audio interface "Fast Track Ultra 8R".
Then we have running a laptop recording vinyl. It's up to DELL Latitude and the intern firewire controller. This laptop is also crashing when closing SONAR. We get even a blue screen when SONAR closes.
But all recordings are very well.
I think SONAR has a problem breaking up the drivers from some audio interfaces in connection with some USB- or Firewire-interfaces.

We digitize tapes, vinyl, dat, md ... in broadcast and studio quality for publishers, public institutions and individuals.
    4 x Intel Quad-CPU, 4GHz Sonar Platinum (Windows 10 - 64Bit) and 14 computers for recording tapes, vinyl ...

    4 x RME Fireface 800, 2 x Roland Octa Capture and 4 x Roland Quad Capture, Focusrite .... Studer A80, RP99, EMT948 ...

I had this problem all the time when I first installed Plat (2016.12)

Not only did it crash all the time, but the crash reporter thing went into overdrive every time and generated multiple messages - often 20+. Having hardly ever had a crash with X3 Pro,  I was quickly beginning to think that Plat just wasn't worth all the aggro.  Then, without me doing anything at all it stopped doing it. Same PC / same projects / same plugs / no updates. Go figure.......

It still throws a crash wobbly now and then after freezing a synth  - AAS synths in particular -  but nowhere near as bad as it was though. I think I'm on 2017.01 or .02 now - can't remember whether I did the .02 update, but definitely haven't done .03 yet.

Re: SONAR Platinum crashing on closing 2017/04/17 01:52:23 (permalink)
Well I think I found the problem.

My Waves plugins were acting weird. Trying to open PAZ stereo analyzer would immediately crash SONAR. I uninstalled them completely and reinstalled with the latest Waves Central installer and re-scanned VST's with scanning failed plugins selected as well as rescan all plugins selected and Waves are working fine again and no crash report comes up when closing SONAR.

I think Waves somehow comes alive even if a project is not open when opening SONAR which may have caused the crashes when closing SONAR.

    Cheers,

Hmm.....well hopefully you have fixed it for you, but I don't have any Waves plug-ins....and right on cue (well almost) after two months of it not happening it just did it again. New project with nothing in it other than a few midi tracks and one instance of TTS-1, tried to close it (unsaved) and the fault reporter goes loopy again ( I counted over 30 pop ups before it finally crashed completely)

I guess at least that eliminates the AAS synths that I suspected as being part of the problem and also BFD3 which was another suspect on previous occasions purely based on common denominators.

I also noticed that in the now time display while the fault reporter was going mad it flashed up "reset button"............ or something like that  - only saw it quickly.

Good that you're fixed up.  As far as plugs coming alive, do you happen to have the VST Scan option set to 'Background'?

I've had mine set to manual for a very long time.  I just have to remember to kick off scan when I add/update/remove plugs.

I always set it to manual as well and scan when I need SONAR to find a new plug in I install.
That is why it was really surprising.
Waves is its own monster though really so I can imagine it possibly causing a problem even without a project loaded.

The VST scanner runs as its own process. The scan option setting probably does not matter.

Yeah but I thought it does not automatically scan plugins on start up unless it is set up that way. That is how it has been for years from my experience.

Yes, the scanner only runs automatically if SONAR is setup to do so.

I have the same issue and I don't have any Waves plugins on my machine.
I have to go to task manager and kill sonar from there then close all windows on the error dialogs.
