SOLVED (SONAR version) TH3 - does it need a serial/activation number?
Hi, The title says it all. I don't see any kind of serial number, so I'm guessing TH3 "just works"? The manual talks about opening an account and putting in a serial number - but I'm sure that's for the "full" version. I'll try this for myself soon - but just checking if I need to find a serial number... Thanks.

I installed using the Command Center. The plug-in worked without my doing anything other than installing the package. Unlike TH2 Producer, TH3 Cakewalk has a demo and upgrade to full version built into the plug-in.

Thanks Steve - well, that's why I want to be careful - I don't want to put it in "demo" mode ;-)
If there's a "upgrade to full" button to click on - that would be cool.
First, I'm going to see if I like it, then I'll see how much the upgrade is...

it looks like artist,pro and plat all have the same version TH3 Cakewalk Edition, no producer editon for splat

when you update thru command center it will update and load it. what happened to me was I had to load and close Sonar a few times for it to show it. also TH2 was in VST2 and the new one is under VST3. hope that helps.

Yep - TH3 is in the "boutique effects" for the update that just came out. TH3 Cakewalk has a demo and upgrade to full version built into the plug-in. Aah - so the demo is for the "full" version (the Cakewalk version doesn't have all the amps, cabs etc) - that makes sense. I don't see any upgrade price, maybe you have to enable the demo mode (?) I'm going to get familiar with this version first (I think the demo mode is for two weeks or something like that.)

It only installs a VST3 version. Are you running the VST3 "Full" version? If you are, It's in the "boutique FX" bundle, so I'd say either - don't update this - or check C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Overloud and make a safe copy of your TH3 file, so it doesn't get overwritten. It's called TH3-64.vst3 is that the same name as your file?

I am sure there will be an upgrade promotion to follow. I will work with TH3 Cakewalk for a while and wait on the promo or a holiday sale, if I upgrade. I have the full version of TH2 and several other ampsims. Currently I do not use ampsims very much.

@jbraner, thanks! My current full version of TH3 shows up as a VST2.There shouldn't be a conflict BUT I will check tp see if I have that TH3-64.vst3 file.

The response I received from Overloud was: "in a few days Cakewalk should announce the upgrade available on their store" So, I guess, watch this space

Updated today, and TH3 ran no problem, now tonight there are no presets, and it says I need to authorize product.
I did install the update through the CC. Any ideas?

Here's another sanity check question re: the input sensitivity setting. The manual and the tooltips (in TH3) say the opposite. The manual says: "Sensitivity: changes input sensitivity as much as it would be on a real amp. LOW is best suited for single coils, HIGH for usually works better with humbuckers." The tooltips say the opposite. I'm thinking that high is the setting for single coils - what does anyone else think?

Here's the reply I got back from Thomas at Overloud: Hi John,thank you for pointing out this mistake on the tooltip.The right version is the one on the manual. In fact when people connect the guitar to the computer they usually normalize the input level (using the level knob of the audio interface) so TH3 receives more or less the same input level, as opposite to what happens on a real amp which receives a lower level if you are using a single coil pickup.To recreate this difference it may be useful to set the TH3 input to LOW when using single coil and to HIGH when using humbuckers. So, I had it backwards ;-) It seems like it doesn't really matter too much how you set it though...

So basically this is just a demo I downloaded? There wasn't a serial for TH2 either.

You get the "Cakewalk Version", which doesn't require a serial number or any activation (that was my initial question). This is a subset of the "full" TH3 - which has more amps/cabs/fx.
But you can then download a demo of the Full TH3, which is supposed to run for a couple of weeks (full access to everything) - then I guess it just reverts back to the Cakewalk version.
