[SOLVED] Since Windows Fall Creators Update: SONAR has a problem to start

Since Fall Creators Update:
The first problem is: SONAR needs 2 minutes to start.
The second problem is: After starting SONAR my Blofeld Waldorf plays a permanent tone - although there is no project loaded.
The third problem: When I load any project (only audio) the Blofeld plays the next permanent tone.

The Blofeld has a connection via USB. AudioInterface is a Roland OctaCapture. SONAR must apparently trigger a signal via USB to the Blofeld. Maybe this is a problem of my USB-port - but why does SONAR need 2 minutes to start?
If I turn off the power of the Blofeld, SONAR needs nevertheless 2 minutes to start. This cannot be the problem.
Before this update there was no problem and SONAR starts in 3 seconds.

Has anyone similar problems or a solution?

After some Windows updates you have to go into Windows and check all your configuration settings. In your case I would be sure that gaming mode is not activated and see that unwanted audio sources have not been activated. I know that update turned on my video card audio and defaulted to game mode. Both of those were not good for my system.

Correct - as of 1709 there is no longer an option as Microsoft feels they know better than their users whether or not game mode should be deployed. Yay!

For a production facility I highly recommend looking into Windows Enterprise. Updates usually come out a month or two later and with fewer bugs. The group policy and power admin features are a nice value added.

I've been using it personally for the past year with great success in my home studio. After helping users fix various issues over the last 9 years...the last thing I want to come home to is another fire.

Thank you. The problem is still there.
VST scanning is permanent set to manually. I have made a new scan after the update. So this can't be the problem.
In the past I had this very slow open time when the internet connection fails. Then SONAR needs also 2 minutes and I was in DEMO-mode.
So this slow open time can also be a problem with the account or the internet-connection Germany <-> USA. In the last few days the website was sometimes not reachable.

I'm on Windows 7, but this might help. I've posted it in other threads, too.

I went through the same thing. Long start time. Long shut down time. Sluggish behavior.

I followed the full uninstall/reinstall routine posted to the Cakewalk site, and my problems disappeared. I have no idea why, but SPlat is now just as snappy as any other program that I use. Make sure you back up your settings for the plug menus if you use customized menus. I didn't, and had to reorganize 1000+ plugins.

You can try turning off the new start screen. We use Aszure load balancing so there should be mirrors in europe, but that could be holding stuff up?

SONAR won't really try connecting for auth purposes unless your authorization has lapsed or its getting close to renewal.

I haven’t found anywhere to disable game mode....

hmmm..cog wheel / to turn off apps/ xbox/ and perhaps radios? and anything that can cause issues, or takes up resources...and do not let apps use, what you feel is a possible cause for interruption of devices.

I would check the = "services." for the xbox crap...and turn it to disable, and anything to do with it...can't remember right now, but go through the list, and double check em out, on the web for what those other services do, liken spying or telemetry sending , or collecting..auto updates, and any programs with auto updates, to set to disabled or manual...to stop the interruptions, or checking for updates while working especially MS Windows, because it holds it in memory, or ties to the notifications a bell or ticket to inform, untill you address it.

might want to turn off notifications also while one goes hunting for any changes MS Windows has done.

Might have to uninstall your audio driver and reinstall it...

And for the odd sounds?...check to make sure "windows sounds" have not been re-enabled, make sure all usb device hubs are not powered down by windows in device manager...uncheck the boxes that say.."Let windows turn off power for this device"

check for latest updates for all the system drivers , bios, and firmware.

Seeing as the telemetry of MS and third party people must use a connection to the world wide web, of spiders and snakes selling your info to others...and not giving anyone a dime.

Bing may use internet explorer to do the dirty deed...windows sounds, and drivers for sound may be affected by the deeds doing it while it has a chance to do whatever it is doing...browsers are tied to audio devices, and notifications may call system sounds...perhaps?...look into these things also:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqbg4-3LIOQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v30B8oHlMFg

some of the methods used might help you hunt down the problems using "monitoring".TASK MANAGER..what is running as a service...seeing the cpu usage of...and hunt it in the services to disable if too high  a % is being witnessed.

SOMETHING MIGHT BE SENDING MIDI CHANGES?..OR NOTE?...MIGHT BE MS GM GS RELATED?

hope it helps.

Cheers.

Game mode is supposed to be turned on or off for each game individually, so perhaps MS decided that there was no need for a global setting. Why Windows would think SONAR is a game and turn it on when running it is a mystery. In any case the link below purports to show how to disable game mode universally in the registry:

I've got updates set to the "slow ring" mode, so I haven't got the latest creator update. I still have the selector to turn it off but I'll be doing a registry hack as soon as the new version arrives.

This is an "ONLY" SONAR computer. No games, no office, no mails, I never had a xbox. Just audio production 24/7 for customer.
When I start the Command Center there is for nearly 2 minutes the message "you are not logged in". Only after almost 2 minutes I'm logged in. That is the same time SONAR needs to start.
My second DAW starts SONAR in 5 seconds and is logged into the Command Center in 1 second.
They are the same computers Intel i7-6700K 4GHz 32 GB, 250GB SSD.

Something prevents on my DAW 1 the fast authorization and login.
The internet is very fast, that is not the problem.

This is why large system IT people are staying with W7.
Have you thought of reverting to W7?
Otherwise the Enterprise version might be the safest bet.

Re: Since Windows Fall Creators Update: SONAR has a problem to start 2017/10/26 18:41:49 (permalink)
@Cactus Music
1995 - 2000 I was system IT expert.
I would never go back to W7. Our job is to digitize thousends of tapes and vinyl. W10 is so much faster then W7 by rendering with iZotope RX and Wave plugins.
I can everytime go back to an backup from the OS. Every week I make (automatically) a systembackup with historicised backups from all DAWs. This is beacuse we work on government and municipal contracts with confidentiality (I hope google has translated correct).
First I didn't know - But my colleague says the slow open time was 24 hours later as the Fall Creator Update was installed. Directly after the Update SONAR starts very fast. So anything happend subsequently in this 24 hours. Maybe Windows has installed some little patch one day later.
But the second problem is, that SONAR sends a permanent tone to my Waldorf Blofeld by starting SONAR.

So I will go back to the "OS Backup 2017-10-22" and have a look what happens.

Re: Since Windows Fall Creators Update: SONAR has a problem to start 2017/10/26 19:10:07 (permalink)
Solved:
The slow start is up to Malwarebytes (internet protection software, for example Ransomeware). Since a few days Malwarebytes blocks anything, that SONAR needs to start - maybe to authenticate the Username.
But it is strange that my second DAW is also protected with Malwarebytes and SONAR starts in 5 seconds.
