it's certainly a bit weird-stroke-rubbish, maybe the store sw can't handle an everything-except-softtube sale?

I personally dont think Soft tube , discontinued the bundle that would pretty stupid after all the programing that went into it..In fact you can still get those plugins in the vst version over at softtube.. What I think is that Cakewalk realized why did we allow this company to develop this bundle with an Ilok on our system after The CEO of Cw is against those kinds of copyright protection , And the sales at a discounted rate were well not as good as they thought. OR perhaps the bakers are baking up similar plugin's and those softube bundles would be a thorn.. OR softtube is Re-developing them without an Ilok key..

My guess is in the same ballpark as Freddies It would be nice I think to have some official word from Cakewalk for those that have invested in it already. I would think it was as news worthy and concerning to customers as making the initial announcement that Softube were onboard with PC modules in the first place. If the guy on the end of the 'phone at the Cakewalk store is informed enough to say it isn't available then somebody has the full picture.

But this is an issue with Cakewalk (as with and many other DAW relying on 3rd party content). It is not the first time. there was all this big thing about the new plugins on Sonar 8, and then the company that was making them went bankrupt soon after release and those plugins have become obsolete, no new versions developped etc. (Can't remember their name now). Isn't Logic 100% Apple? wiht no 3rd parties involved? at least you're good with what you buy, unless Apple goes bankrupt, which is a long shot. I guess there's good and bad points with any system.

Softube website says that the ProChannel versions are free for all mix bundle customers, no matter if you bought the Mix Bundle through the Cakewalk Store or not. I wonder if they'll continue to be available? Anyway I think it's pretty strange that the article would be discontinued and removed after such a short amount of time! Must have been a pretty catastrophic disaster business-wise, seeing as a downloadable software product costs nothing to manufacture/assemble/package/ship...

The only thing I can think of that makes any sense is a licensing issue between the two companies. As Sven says it wouldn't require any further cost to keep them available for sale as they've already been developed and released.

Yes, I understand the distinction. things happen, companies go under etc. However, when you say it may be "a licensing issue between the two companies", I'd hope that before they offer us products that fully integrates with the new platform features that they would have a water tight deal with any third party supplier, that the deals are long terms etc. it may well be the case. we'll see.

Ok Capt Cake it's time to tell us whats going down. All this speculation is getting us nowhere we need to know where we stand with this softtube issue esp those of us that have expanded and those who have brought the softtube bundle, which by the way looked tasty and I for one am dissapointed I am now not going to get the chance to buy it at a latter date. Andrew, Seth, anyone from Cake fess up what is going on. We know your listening!! Neb

Jonbouy AT I read it as a special deal for a limited time. Hope not the other way, since I have a review for same to be published soon. @ You think Softube developed a PC bundle just to feature as a special deal? That sounds a bit far-fetched to me. The softube mix bundle was already a softube package available on their site. Someone made it PC friendly, after softube licenced the soft knob (part of their EQ series). The PC mix bundle was offered at almost half-price off of softube's price on the Cake site. That ended at the end of Feb. Coincidentally softube has a 40% offer going on right now w/o the mix bundle being offered. What to make of all of that - I have no idea, except the timing means someone did (does) have a plan. Maybe after softube's sale is over the Cake store will offer the bundle again. Or maybe the bundle has gone the way of the dodo. Right now you can't get the Softube Mix Bundle w/ the PC skins as a package anywhere, from my exploring the relevant sites. Also, from what I understand about the PC versions is that they are simply reskinned - the code is the same. Not that much of an investment. Since each company is doing sequential sales, it is hard to say whether the collaboration between the two companies was a bust or not. I wouldn't expect Cake (or softube) to say we lost our shirts. It looks like they had a deal coming out of the soft knob - Softube gets to tie in w/ SONAR's sale for a couple of months, then takes back over for their own sale (which is more expensive even w/ the 40% off than Cake's). I can just say I'm glad I got mine when I did. @

I see that Sweetwater still sells the native version (vst) Softube Mix Bundle for$299, but of course this is not with the ProChannel "skins". So if you want to get the vst Bundle you can still purchase it over at Sweetwater. I knew that the great deal for $179 was gone in February, but not that the PC version was no longer being sold at all by Cakewalk. Like AT, I am very glad I got it when it was still available and at their great sale price. I have used it in the PC and never even needed to use the vst version; it is too convenient to have it in the PC toolkit.

24 hours later and no statement either confirming the discontinuation of the product line, or a statement that it is a temporary removal and will be available again in the future. Knowing either would be a welcome thing and allow me to either cross it off my list of future purchases or prioritize other purchases. Even the response from the phone call that Rimshot made to the Cakewalk store is a little nebulous in that it's pretty clear it's currently not available, but not whether this is a temporary thing, is still up in the air.

Even if the special price was not available due to Softube licensing or something you'd think it would still be available at the full normal price. That it isn't has me puzzled. It doesn't inspire confidence in the overall plan. Sure I have the plugins and they're not going to stop working. Still some word of reassurance would be appropriate but not likely. Something like Because of such and such a reason we've pulled the Softube bundle for a reason or some period of time while such and such happens.

At the time, I was going to buy the Softubes bundle as well at a later date as I would have to pony up for the iLok. Now I go to buy it and its no longer there. I too thought that the limited time was the price, not the product. :(

I had some of the plugs, but not all, so it was on the list and still considered a good deal. Does this mean no more softube plugs at all in the future? That bums me out since I really hoped that the analog delay and spring reverb would be ported for pc. The gui of both would work perfectly, and I had really hoped that the amp sims might get ported also. Does this mean that softube will no longer update the pc versions for those who did purchase? Also, the timing on the sale was bad. Most people were still paying off Christmas and waiting for their tax returns in order to buy gear. I had assumed that the only way a pc plug would be discontinued would be if the pc was discontinued. It definitely makes me think twice about any future pc purchases.

Hi- Let me clarify and end all the speculation. The Softube Mix Bundle has NOT been discontinued. It was always meant to be a limited-time offer to Cakewalk customers. We extended it a few times but agreed to end it in April. To purchase this you will need to go through an authorized Softube dealer. The promotion itself was a huge success and we did try to give fair warning that the special offer would be ending.

As I've stated twice in this thread (why do I sometimes feel that everyone has me blocked?) the Softube website says that the ProChannel "skins" are free for all MixBundle customers, no matter where or when you bought it. It doesn't say whether you're able to get the ProChannel versions for single plugins (maybe a Softube plugin owner can find this out for us?), or whether they'll continue to be available as part of future bundles.

My opinion is that you should try to make a new deal with Softube and sell the Mix Bundle on the Cakewalk Store indefinitely at whatever price you find sensible. Seems only natural given there has been a collaboration. But I'm clueless when it comes to business stuff...

That statement from Softube seems to be aimed at people who purchased the Softube Mix Bundle when Cakewalk offered it. The question is, will they make available the ProChannel versions is someone purchased the native Mix Bundle tomorrow from say MusiciansFriend. Just clarifying.

Hello everyone! Torsten from Softube here. I'm glad to see so much interest in our ProChannel modules :) We think they turned out great and that the PC is a fantastic concept. I just wanted to reiterate what Andrew from Cakewalk said above. Also, for avoidance of doubt: Yes - when you buy the Softube Mix Bundle from an authorized Softube dealer you will get the ProChannel modules as well. You will also get the ProChannel modules for free if you buy the plugins separately from our web store. The modules are always part of the plugins. If you have any questions, thoughts or suggestions, please send an email to our support or sales address. Contact information can be found at www.softube.com Cheers, Torsten
