SOLVED: Sonar finds "Corrupt audio region," PC crashes, how do I find it?
Unfortunately, the issue described below was not software related. The error messages (IRQL, etc.) seemed to indicate a hardware issue and, after much troubleshooting, it's my beloved MCU Pro. At first it worked so long as I kept only the MCU on, with the Extenders off. That worked for an hour. So I kept everything - the MCU and Xtenders off (but not unplugged) - and I'm back in action. Very weird, and it sucks not having the MCU in action, but I know that can be remedied with an allotment of time for more troubleshooting, but I just don't have the time right now. If anyone has any ideas (other than the basics like using a different USB cable or switching ports on the PC), I'd love to hear them. Thanks again. Original post: Worked on an older (years) project last night fine. Today, while it's opening, and Sonar pops up a message: "A corrupt audio region was detected and padded with silence." I press OK, and I get the (W10 version) BSOD: "Driver_IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL (starport.sys)." Thoughts? Mostly I'm wonder how to find this corrupt region, which would explain a lot of issues on this project. In other news, the other day I noticed that in Device Manager, the ISO Mounter was disabled. I didn't disable it. Since I'm the only user, Windows must have. I suppose I might have, though I can't imagine why. Could this be the/an issue? Lots of issues in last two days, which coincide with stumbling across the disabled ISO Mounter. Any risk in enabling the ISO Mounterfor troubleshooting? Could W10 have disabled it for some reason so that enabling it is risky to the system? Running latest SPLAT with latest W10. I have screen shots of the two error messages, but can't post them from my iPad. Thanks!

Google says starport.sys is a storage controller driver. If there's a problem with the driver or the storage media (whether mechanical or solid state), it could be causing the corrupt audio region error rather than the other way around. You might want to start by looking scanning the disk for errors, and looking for driver updates. CWAF's main job is to identify and remove unused audio files and help find missing ones, and SONAR wouldn't be trying to read those anyway.

Hmmmm, I did scan all the disks for errors yesterday, and Windows found none. I'm tempted to just enable the ISO Mounter... Also, stupid question (?), but SSD drives don't have drivers do they?

did you copy the project on to your main drive or just stream it from another drive ? I would try (if you haven't) to copy the audio files from your other drive and put them on your main drive. open the project, when sonar says audio is missing, just navigate to the audio files you copied on your SSD. they might have been corrupt during editing but it should still work, if you save the project again (use save as) and re open the project you know it might be a data streaming issue on a failing HD. Some HD's will work fine but when it comes to streaming data, its another story. as Dave said though, look for disk for errors if you already have not.

You could try opening each audio file in turn in an audio editor (e.g. Wavosaur). One of two things might happen: 1) You find one that fails to open and you will know that's where the corruption is 2) One of the files has visibly corrupt data in it (usually this is quite easy to spot) Either way, it sound like the disk is bad (or going bad) so your priority should be to make sure your projects are all backed up elsewhere. This is really weird: I seem to be able to open and run the project now (after a lot more troubleshooting, including saving as a bundle and unbundling, which got rid of the corrupt file issue), unless I have my Mackie MCU on! This is really baffling. I enabled the ISO mounter, removed an ancient iLok dongle that appeared to have an authorization file for waves plugs already authorized on a USB "dongle," and a bunch of other things, but I keep getting the IRQL crash error on this particular project if I have the MCU on!
Now, for the first time, Sonar gave me an error message (as opposed to just Windows crashing) about Amplitube 4, so I updated to the latest version (I was one version behind). I'll see what happens.
Figures, the family leaves for three days, and the moment I open up SPLAT, Windows and Sonar start crashing. So instead of a massive once a year mixing marathon, I'm doing this. And now I'm doing this with a flipping Johnny Black on ice.

PS: I'd go with a single malt, but it's too hot here in Boston (and if you put your single malt on ice, well, you shouldn't).

Also, Windows disk check - is it fine, or are any of those third party apps really worth it?

I think the Amplitube update did it, or at least combined with everything else (I'd like to thing the previous five hours weren't in vain).
Thank you folks so much for your help and enjoy the rest of your weekend...
