**SOLVED** Take Lanes STILL in a complete mess - have I missed an update?
I'm currently tracking some rhythm guitar into a project. I've set up a nice headphone mix so I can hear the drums and the other rhythm guitar I've already recorded. However, about half way through the song, I completely lost the sound of the other guitar. I've got no automation on anything, and the only muted tracks in the project are those I don't want to hear in my cans. In desperation to find out why I'm hearing no audio from the guitar I've already tracked, I opened the Track Lanes to see if that was the problem. Here's what I see - I have a load of totally empty 'T0' Lanes, which are all soloed, explaining why I can't here the Lanes with audio: I'm on: Please tell me this user error, or I've missed a fix, or has this still not been addressed? It's killing me

You've missed an update Steve. X2a is build 351 which fixed the T0 bug. No major changes on lanes, but that bug is gone.

I think the groove 3 sonar x2 video says it all, watch the take lanes, its after loop recording. just watch it, youll see. for now click the X to rid yourself of the empty lanes. this will hopefully be reworked in the future.

I thought this was addressed i X2a update, too. Are some people with X2a still seeing this issue, then. The Groove3 videos were done pre X2a, AFAIK.

Sorry for the mis-info Strammy. My Recording rig is so unstable at the moment that I'm afraid I'll throw it on the floor every time I try recording so I haven't turned it on in 2 weeks. Apologies to you too Keni. When I can get my issues sorted I'll still send you those grooves. Mike

@Charlie - I agree take lanes need some tweaking, but I've not seen the T 0 behaviour since the X2a update. I got into the habit of always opening take lanes on a track before recording, so don't know if I'm still doing this without noticing. I will have a look next time I'm tracking.

That empty big stripe at the top labeled "14"; Did Cakewalk just put that stripe there to waste a whole bunch of display real estate? Or Is the complete waste of display space a result of half baking Take Lanes with a bunch of characteristics that no one actually took the time to think about? I'm guessing a bunch of both went into this botch job. best regards, mike

I would have benefitted from skipping this thread. take lanes is about one fix away from being a great feature and in my opinion. im sure there are some things im probably missing as well as far as its features and using them. its one of the only things I dis-like about x2. even stability has been great for me. just a feature id like to see improved.

I don't recall if they are still named T0, but I get empty lanes created if I loop record without having Lanes exposed before I enter record... Honestly tho it's a bit inconvenient, I'm far more disturbed with Lanes themselves as I have nothing but dislike for them even if the bugs were fixed.... I'm more certain with every passing day that this was done to deal with touchscreen issues and it hurts to know that.... I doubt if I will be touch-capable anytime in the forseeable future, nor do I really care to be as I don't find it an advantage... I have an iPad and a iPod Touch and tho it seems intuitive, it's more often counter productive for me... Especially when I need detai8led work of any kind... From what I had read a few years back, Microsoft "changed stride" due to the popularity of touchscreen iPhone/Pad/Pod from voice control to touch control.... Windows 7 ended up to be a cleaned up version of Vista instead of voice which got pushed to Win8 which got changed to touch.... Very sad... (for me)... Sorry to rant again.... It just slipped out! ;-) Keni

I believe they had to get touch-ready too suddenly (see previous post).... so they quick-cobbled Lanes to get to the gate... Even though I still prefer Lanes over Layers in the overall scheme of things, that does make sense - I can't see Layers ever working with touch, at least when there were more than a few. And with touch being a focus for X2(a) there had to be some method for dealing with comps, which was accomplished with Lanes. Now we just need some refinement so that those without touch (like me) can get even more out of Lanes. 'Cause even though I may prefer them to Layers, I find them far from ideal.

Comping and automation editing at the same time has never been easier as far as I'm concerned. I'd still like to see an option to "auto minimise while open take lane" function though for the times when I don't want automation there - amongst the other improvements I've mentioned elsewhere.

mike_mccue I used to dream about improvements and then I realized SONAR was devolving. I used to think the same thing about the AMIGA computer. Eventually I got fed up waiting and moved to the PC. I know someone that still spends his life on an Amiga forum complaining about its shortcomings rather than move on to something that works for him. I admire his tenacity, but pity him for the futility of it.

I do like the idea of lanes, my problem is real-estate, after about 10 takes or so which is easy to do when doing vocals I run out of room comping.

Tho I feel I will never see it... I wish they would put back the buggie version of Layers as an option for those who choose... As they did for Envelope Lanes... Real Estate... A big issue... Readability? Lanes continually get me confused with looking for controls with tracks... That too... I could see far more info on screen in the 8.5.3 days than I can now and it seems to be aimed towards making touch control the chosen method now. which requires everything larger and more spaced out (space waste) and the exact opposite of my own desires.... OK... I'm not gonna rant.... ;-) But this added to the many bugs/flaws in the current implementation of Lanes has me "screaming" for some kind of fix.... Please! Keni

MIDI, not so much. My Axiom 49 plays soft-synth's fine most of the time then every once and a while it loses connection to Sonar. My Roland drums have a constant continual click sort of like it has some kind of internal clock. But I called Roland tech support and they have no Idea what's causing it. My Simmons drums look like they recorded fine when I look at the track in PRV but when I play it back the very first note sets off every sound the drum brain has to offer. I even tried just recording one snare hit and it went off like 10 kids beating it with sticks. Actually had to shut down Sonar via task manager the last time I tried figuring it out. It just wouldn't stop playing and there was no way to stop it. I've tried connecting through my MIDISport, my 18i6 and USB. No luck. I'm stumped. Mike
