[SOLVED] Unable to record/I see signal/Not my first project

Working on a project/song...adding 8th guitar track...good signal. Record is enabled, but when I hit record, nothing gets recorded. I am not an expert but its not my first project either.
So, to eliminate possibilities, I created a new project, added a track and was able to record with the same setup.
Any Idea? (I tried to attach screenshot to be less vague, but this probably does not allow to attach images).
Input is good, output is good, signal is there...what should I do? Is this a bug with Sonar...
Restarted Sonar, Restarted PC, no luck. Any workaround suggestion would be appreciated....

Thanks in advance.

Can you hear the input when you turn on Input Echo?

Just FYI - I am a Sonar veteran and really know my way around the program. I've written books on it, write a Sonar column for Sound on Sound, and have given workshops on Sonar as well as produced instructional videos. But I'm not afraid to embarrass myself in public, because I also have a degree in pilot error...

The other day I could not get a peep out of Sonar. I thought maybe I'd assigned the tracks to the wrong outs or something. All the meters indicated signal was getting to the master. I checked over the routing, everything was dumping properly into the master bus.

I closed and opened Sonar...same thing. Tried a different project...same thing. Rebooted the computer. Tried headphones instead of speakers...

Bottom line was it helped a whole lot when I turned up the master fader on the V-Studio's control surface

    Hi Craig,
(I believe anyone who is an active Sonar user atleast for 6 months knows your name :-))

I can hear sound when 'Input Echo' is on. My scenario is different from yours in the way that, I can hear and see the signal. But when I record, no wave file/info is placed in the track. REC button is on.

Also, if I close that specific project, and open a new one, add a track with the same guitar setup, I am able to see/hear wave file like I should.
After pulling hair quite a bit last night, I am leaning more towards saving this project as a template, then open a fresh new project, import this template and then one by one, start adding all the wave file (but before I do that, I will probably merge all the clips to one file per track, that way, less wave files to import). I just don't know if its the easiest way to get the ball rolling.

Just to clarify, problem seems to be in this specific project. Not doing anything different than how I recorded the other track (I am sure that's what we all say :-)).
If I start over in a new project, I should be fine. But for a product like Sonar, I shouldn't have to do that.

    Thanks again.

    A couple suggestions.

You say this works with the same track setup in a different project. So create a track template from the different project of only the track that's working as you want, and import that into the old project to see if it records.

If you decide to save all your wav files and start over, there's an export option that will save out all your tracks as individual files that all start at the beginning of the song. For a description of how to do this, check out the tip for August 16 in my "31 Days of Sonar Tips" thread.

This certainly is bizarre. It seems very odd that Sonar would somehow decide not to record on just one specific track in one specific project.

ditto on input echo. I can't tell you how many times I started chasing audio problems down just because I forgot to push that button! I had to make a  post it note to stick on the bottom of my monitor screen.(It fell off, but not before it burned that routine into my brain)

How did I forget that?!? I've also been a victim of "why is no audio recording?" due to punch. It's right up there with forgetting to turn up my master volume control

Can't wait to go home and try the 'auto-punch' fix. I know I have done quite a few autopunches in this project. Looking forward to a major 'duh' moment. This will be a good time for me to start a troubleshooting spreadsheet because I will forget about this in a month :-).

Oh I had a big smile on my face when I read this ... how many times have I NOT done the things mentioned here.  It's part of growing up ...

Hope the OP gets it going.

Well, I guess that's up there with having the master volume control turned down
