[SOLVED] Way to update from Kontakt 5.5.1 to 5.5.2 (while avoiding Native Access?)

As per the the title ... I recently bought part of the Dronar Kontakt Library, but only after confirming with the vendor that, as stated in the manual, it works with Kontakt 5.5.

This was crucial for me because of all the problems I've heard re Kontakt 5.6 and Native Access which I just don't want to risk.
(Please let's not get on a tangent like "Well, 5.6+ and Native Access all works fine for me, only idiots have problems"; if you're good, great; but too many people have experienced otherwise; the topic is not whether I should stay with 5.5 , but rather is whether I can via 5.5.2.)

Anyway, I installed the Dronar library but, as you can see in this desktop video,

https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cb6u2F2cXw

I get this message: "Your version of Kontakt is too old to load this file. You can update to the latest version by exiting Kontakt and starting Service Center."

I don't know why I'd get this, as my version is 5.5.1, which falls under the min spec of Kontakt 5.5. I've written the vendor but as it's the weekend I thought maybe I can help myself by upgrading via the Service Center to Kontakt 5.5.2 (which is the highest I'm ready to go right now). But no go, the only thing the Service Center offers is Kontakt 5.6.something.

This article

https://support.native-instruments.com/ ... this-file-

tells me to update via Native Access, but 1) I'm not touching that with a 10-foot pole and 2) I doubt it would let me go to just 5.5.2, it seems like some kind of enforcer droid designed to sheperd us all into 5.6+, whether NI is technically on top of things or not.

So, is there any way (except via Native Access) to update to 5.5.2?

Any help much appreciated.

Unless you can find a 5.5.2 installer there isn't anyway to just upgrade to 5.5.2.  Native Access won't let you do it.  But you should really first check exactly what the .nki wants.  I have the very first DRONAR and when I look at the same file you try loading in the video, in the status bar at the bottom of Kontakt (if you make the status larger) I can see "Created by: Kontakt V5.6.5.013"  But that may be because I batched re-saved DRONAR (to speed up loading).  I suspect the documentation is wrong and it requires at least 5.6

Looking through my emails I see an update from Time&Space in Oct 2016 talking about fixing DRONAR to work correctly with Kontakt 5.6 and 5.6.1.  They have a update download and also talk about how you can re-download the entire product to get the new update.  I suspect they lost their 5.5 compatibility then.

Thanks very much!  That led me to the culprit. Despite the manual saying this version worked with 5.5, I can now see the NKIs were last saved by (i.e. shipped out as) something in the v5.6 family. Not tickled with the vendor (Time & Space) in this case, with whom I took the arguably over-cautious pre-purchase step of confirming the manual's guidance re the min Kontakt spec; yet they were wrong too :-/  Thanks again for your help. I'll try to ask the developer if they can send the V5.5 version. Really looking forward to playing with the library if poss.

Epilogue: I contacted Gothic Music via FB, they very quickly sent me the v5.5 compatible NKIs, and it all works fine. Awesome first impressions, can't wait to explore more. Thanks again msorrels.

I think I'm stuck in a similar circle as you. I get the " your version is too old to load this file " AND I can't seem to get Native Access to install properly in order to update Kontakt. I also have an old version of Windows 7 SP2  that I will not update for fear of loosing my whole set-up. Not sure where to turn on this issue.

fwiw, if anyone needs older installers without the native access thingy, get them directly via https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/downloads/update-manager/
