[SOLVED] X3D draw/pen tool will not place automation nodes, smart tool does.

Just spent a few hours doing some automation. X3D draw/pen tool will not place automation nodes on the green or red (clip gain) volume automation lines, but the smart tool does. Anyone else having this issue?

I struggled with this too a while back.  It was so frustrating that I was forced to read the manual!  I recall that it was necessary to double-click and then drag in an unusual manner away from an existing node to get it to work.  That's not what it said in the manual, that's just what I figured out on my own.  Eventually, like you, I started to use the smart tool to create nodes...

The smart tool inserts and moves nodes. The draw tool "writes" automation. You have to move the pencil to generate nodes. Note that the automation Write button enables when you're drawing.

Okay, that explains it.  I was using the wrong tool.  Thanks for enlightening me...

I hardly ever move away from the Smart Tool now - it can do nearly all of the same things as the dedicated tools, as well as a few of it's own.

This worked. However using the smart tool I was unable to just hover over the center of the green line in between nodes and have the cursor change to the "Move" icon. I had to hold down the control key and move it over the green line to get it to change from "draw" to "move". I should be all set just using the smart key now. Thanks again for the help!
