<SOLVED, for now> MIDI keyboard problem with Platinum...

EDIT> I am not exactly sure what I did. When it wasn't working, the KB was showing up as a MIDI device, it isn't now but I opened a new project, added RP to the audio track, created a MIDI track, clicked all the options in MIDI P. (Midi control, MS wavetable synth, etc, everything that could be clicked, I clicked) and it just worked ( I had X3 and Platinum open at the same time and I noticed that was different and X3 was still working) So Platinum works now too, with RP, and DIM PRO. Kontakt, I am figuring out. I figured out that I have to change something to OMNI on the UI. It works on most things I've tried but I'm still figuring it out. I noticed with Kontakt that it is easy to have multiple instruments open without knowing it... but MAN, it sound's GREAT!
Sorry it took me a few days to get back... I had a couple of things happen but better now. In that time this post had moved to page 4. That is GOOD! Activity here is good.
Thanks and I will surely have more questions. I'll be back when I do. I think I should watch SWA and see if Groove3 has a Kontakt video. BTW, I noticed that there were updates to Kontakt once I installed it. I ordered the disks.

I have a basic keyboard controller, it has worked before but isn't now. It is an Alesis Q61.
I spent several hours yesterday trying to make it work. One time I got an error about some not enough memory and the keyboard wouldn't be ..something, if I get it again, I'll write it down.
So, it still works fine in X3. Can I open X3 and Platinum at the same time to compare settings?

It is a USB keyboard, it has a midi out but it is just for connecting to a module. I can get the meters to move, but no sound through phones or monitors. I cannot run it through my interface Ocat-Capture, no USB in. I'm using ASIO with the OC, could that be the problem? Still, it works in X3 but I didn't check the configuration there. I'm thinking if I have both the OC and the keyboard using ASIO, it won't work but it is making the meters move in Platinum. Also on Tuesday I updated to Kingston.

I am a midiot... I don't know what to look for. I looked up the keyboard online but the Alesis manual was very basic. Is there a video I can check out?

I've also asked Keni for help and I'll check with him later. It will be later this PM before I can get back to it, gotta go to town, eh. So I thought I'd post here and check back here too when I'm able to get back to it later.

Thanks for any ideas.... and remember, I truly am a midiot. I'm not sure what a midi channel is or where to look or what to change, I need help "For Dummies" assume I know nothing. Sometimes the terms trip me up with midi because of assumptions that I know more than I do. I REALLY like plug and play! Configuration is a shot in the dark but this is coming to an end. I'm tired of the frustration so I'm going to learn more about midi. I've relied on EZKeys, EZDrumer, and loops for too long.

BTW, I was using Rapture Pro and the little VST keyboard was giving me sound, just not the Alesis, not in Platinum. I know it is capable though because when I tried it in X3 I just opened a new project with no tracks and didn't even bother adding one, just moved RP over and it opened and played using the Alesis. Maybe there was a track, I wasn't really paying attention to that. I was focused on getting a sound from the midi keyboard.

Will be back later. Thanks,
Julien

Did you go into "devices" and make sure the Q61 is selected?
The meters move and no sound?
    That is a weird one.
My Roland (its the Cakewalk one) has been working fine since Kingstown.

Did you engage the "MIDI Input Echo" button on the track?

Have you checked the "Channel" option for the track (select "Omni" when in doubt)?

Is the track and it's audio outputs definitely routed to the target synth?

Make sure you have the keyboard plugged in and turned on BEFORE opening Sonar (and wait a minute before opening Sonar to give it time to connect to Windows... this screws with my stuff quite frequently).

Just some things to look at.

If all else fails maybe check for some updated drivers for the Alesis. If there aren't any updates try uninstalling then reinstalling the most up to date drivers (or maybe an older driver version will work better so Google search the model number and it's drivers to see if there have been any complaints for any of the versions... and of course use the best one).

If there are NO drivers (like it's plug and play like my Oxygen 25 is) then IDK. Maybe something to bring up with support.

    Cheers and good luck.

Yes, you can open X3 and Platinum at the same time to compare settings, and since it's working in X3, I would assume the keyboard configuration, connections and USB MIDI port drivers are basically correct, and you just need to get preferences and projects set up the same as in X3.

I have the 49 key version. I do not use the USB connection, although it should work just like it does in X3. Instead I bought the power supply (here is the Sweetwater listing http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/QKeyPower ) because I was trying to avoid an additional USB device. The MIDI out works just like any other controller and connects to SONAR using the MIDI port on my audio interface.

Thanks everyone, I had a minute to look. I'll be back in a few hours to try some of this.
@Brundlefly That's what I was thinking. It has worked with Platinum before. I just updated to Kingston and maybe something got reset.
@Deering, it wasn't but I selected it, the OC was also selected. I'm not sure what to do there... @Scook, I have the PS and that's the way I hooked it up first and couldn't get it to work. I'm sure it is some setting I don't know how to correct.
@ Beepster I'll check all that, I may need a little help.

    BBL and thanks!
