[SOLVED] -> Platinum -> Switching from monthly to yearly
Over the weekend I purchased the yearly plan after initially signing up for the monthly plan. I then canceled the monthly plan (it still has a few days of use left on this month timeline). I've registered/redeemed Platinum with the new redemption code. Does anyone know if after the monthly plan expires in a few days, will my new yearly version automatically kick in to replace? Thanks for any chiming in.

The Command Centre should see from your store account that your Sonar is paid up and make your current version (+ the next 12 months updates) as non-expiring.

Thanks Karyn. Currently the Command Center appears to be updated. However, when I launch Sonar, I get the toast notification concerning my canceled/expired monthly access.

I think this original topic should be expanded upon by the cake staff. The option to go from monthly to yearly has been discussed here several times along with being mentioned at the store site and I think there will be others who do this as well. But I can't find the details of how that process works, any special steps, etc. So just me reaching out to tech support would not help the others who take this step as well.

Andrew Rossa covered that here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3144986 Honestly, that's not a path we want to manage. There is no way to make that really automated. We'd be managing a lot of SKUs and scenarios. I understand why you might want to do that and then hope you can go back to paying upfront. I think that's why we want to offer a demo on day 1 so people can have 30 days to try out some of the new features.

My plan all along has been to start with monthly plan, as I wanted it but am pretty broke at the moment (winter gardening is tough). I plan on cancelling this when I have the money and going to yearly, which I will assume just starts my 12 months from that point. Hope they make this ok... I thought from what I read it was. Always upgrade... figured this was a beautiful part of the new system as I wouldn't have to starve to do so in winter!

I think what Andrew was referring to paying for a few months and then moving to a paid in full version by paying the balance owing. I don't reckn that would work. Too much admin. BUT I sign up for 1 month pay my money then cancel at months end. Buy a full years upfront version. How could that add extra work?
Let's say I don't do step one and just decide at end of February to buy the fully paid version. I can do that without problem.
In that same post Andrew also said that he wanted a trial/demo version on day one so people had a full 30 days to try before buying but we don't have a demo version yet.

This is what I just did. I signed up for the monthly subscription and after hearing that some folks were having problems with Sonar sometimes reverting to demo mode ( This Thread) and learning that audiodeluxe.com was offering a discount, I decided to switch to the yearly program vs. the monthly. I'm quite aware my first month's payment was applied for a different payment program, and no part of the monthly payment will be applied to the yearly program amount. Not an expectation nor is that a problem. Cakewalk garners a little extra profit and I'm fine with that. I knew that much going in. In essence, I want my yearly payment to be viewed as a separate purchase, registered and working. It would be nice if the serial numbers would transfer from the yearly program software purchase to the already installed software. And maybe that is what happens once the monthly programs expires in a few days. I don't know that though. For now, I get a "toast" message telling me I only have Xnumber of days left on my monthly subscription. I simply want to know what steps I need to take on my side of things, if anything other than those I listed above. If someone from Cakewalk could spell out the steps/process, that would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi swamptooch- That was Andrew's response to my question about what would happen if we started with a monthly payment and wanted to switch to yearly; i.e. could we deduct the payments from the "balance due." The answer was a fair "no." I didn't interpret that at all to mean that we couldn't purchase a "brand new" yearly SONAR membership at any time, which is in fact what I intend to do. I can't imagine Cakewalk discouraging that. Thanks- -Susan

My guess was that musicroom was upgrading from an earlier sonar. I would think that only one upgrade would be allowed per existing product. If you own 2 copies of sonar i can see this method being ok, but my guess is a call to support is the only thing that would fix this particular issue.

That sounds reasonable swamptooth if I were wanting to keep 2 licenses activated. I'm not really asking for a new serial number or a 2nd copy - just wanted to basically pay out the purchase to get away from the month to month activation going on behind the scenes at the command center. I just finished a helpful conversation with Tech Support and from their records it appears all is well. They asked that I log out of the command center and then log back in. My yearly purchase should be updated at that time. I didn't think to do that earlier. I performed a couple of computer restarts, but never actually logged out of the CC. I can't get to that pc for a few more hours. Once I check, I'll update the status here. Thanks

Update: Last evening I first logged out of the CC (per tech support) and then logged back in. Opened Platinum and the toast notification popped up basically informing me my subscription was ending in 10-days. So that didn't work. I then logged out of CS. I re-downloaded Platinum from the web links for the yearly purchase and installed outside of the CC (still logged out). Next, I launched Platinum at the installation prompt and No Toast notification! I'm thinking YES!! However, that victory moment was short lived once I closed Platinum and logged back into the CC and launched Platinum. I was right back where I started from with a Toast Notification reminding me of my monthly subscription ending in 10-days... I logged out of the CC and logged back in - same results. At this point I'm going to wait until the 10-days has expired and see if my yearly subscription will automatically engage. Otherwise - I don't have anything else I know to try...

It's all looking like there's bugs in the CC. I haven't bothered to open it since the download and install. My plan is to keep an ear out for important updates and only then will I fire it up. I bet if you had not opened CC you would have been fine.

Hi Dan... I may be about to do this as well... Could we summarize the process here? I'm thinking that I simlply buy the full price version (upgrade) at $149, Then contact you (customer support?) and notify you so that you can move the registration. Finally logging out of C3 to allow the adjustment to change when I re-open C3 ? Thanks... Keni

I did the same today after trying to make Cakewalk support Understand. I asked what the best way was to cancel my monthly payments and make a one time payment or full licence for Sonar. The reply I got back after a week was that there was no way to credit my 2 months and pay the balance of a years membership.
In the meantime surfing around I found a page where I can cancel my monthly order yay.. So I just went and placed an order for the one time payment Sonar Platinum whoops. Got taken to a PayPal site in another language. Back I go and his time all done in English and OK
Where am I now. I've let Cakewalk know I've got an order I don't want and I'm going to cancel my monthly repayment as soon as I get a serial number for my new and paid for Sonar Platinum licence. It's already been a few hours. I hope it doesn't take too long to get the serials so I can just done what needs doing.

I'm not posting an issue. Just sharing my experience of a similar scenario. Are you suggesting that once a thread is marked as solved that we can no longer continue the discussion. If that's the case then the forum hosts should lock all threads marked as solved. If not then seeing as I'm discussing the same topic why is my post not relevant? Just wondering!!

Hi- I paid for a month and decided I wanted to go for the yearly, so I bought the SPlat upgrade through AudioDeluxe at their discount price of $126. I didn't have an automatic monthly renewal set up, so I expect that will just cancel automatically at the end of the period I paid for. After that, I'm hoping I can just use my new redemption code and all will be smooth sailing... ! I wouldn't think I'd have to contact CW for any of this, but I'll find out in a few days. -Susan
