{SOLVED: sort of] Should I have to freeze a MIDI track just to record another MIDI track?
I direct record very little MIDI (usually only one track) however I ran into an interesting problem. I have a project with one audio track routed to a Master bus. No FXs on the tracks or Master bus. 1. I insert an audio Track (#2) and put Kontakt in the FX bin. Route to Master bus. 2. I insert a MIDI track and output to Track 2. 3. Record my part using my Axiom. 4. Playback is fine. Repeat steps #1 2 & 3. However when I get to step 3, the MIDI playback of track 2 is delayed approx 1 full measure. Now, if I ignre the "delay" and record my second part, playback is fine on both tracks. My MIDI playback "preapre" millisecond buffers has set to form 20 up to 3000. Midi clip is on the right measure, it has not been moved. Time+ value is zero on all MIDI tracks. I have tried all combinations of input echo on both MIDI tracks. I could accept if I had many-many-may MIDI tracks where some delay might come into play, but just one MIDI track? Something is wrong but I just can't find it. Edit: The work around is to insert the synth, not create an audio track and put the synth in the FX bin (the way it worked just fine up to 8.5.3)

No, but it depends on your sound card, driver settings and pc performance. My MIDI playback "preapre" millisecond buffers is set to 3000 3000 is a little high IIRC. Try lowering it to 300 or 500

Sorry I don't have X1 but, are you inserting Kontakt into the FX bin or are you using "Insert Soft Synth". Doing the former has caused issues for me in S8.5.3

Psalmist35 Sorry I don't have X1 but, are you inserting Kontakt into the FX bin or are you using "Insert Soft Synth". Doing the former has caused issues for me in S8.5.3 As I said in number 2. I insert an audio Track (#2) and put Kontakt in the FX bin. Same is true for any other synth too (i.e. Sampltank, EZDrummer).

CJaysMusic 3000 is a little high IIRC. Try lowering it to 300 or 500 3000 was per Danny Danzi suggestions regarding some issues in playback (a long time ago). I'll give 300 to 500 a try.

I have tried settings from 20 to 500 and nothing seems to change the fact that the first MIDI track is always 1 measure behind on playback while recording a subsequent track. Conflusterated Am I.

with the rig you have you should be able to play a dozen midi tracks all with unique instances and still be synced up perfectly. It's something in the settings. Are you sure you have the midi track starting on the right measure....? You didn't happen to "accidentally" drag it back a measure now did you? After I change a setting I will often restart X1 to be sure the settings are in affect.

Herb syncing on play back is NOT the problem. Only previously recorded MIDI is out of sync when recording a new MIDI track. I agree something is not right. I just can't seem to find what it is.

@BAPU - Did you check the "Time+" value in the offending MIDI track?

do you get the same problem when you insert it/them as (a) synth(s)? is there a reason for using fx bin instead?

Thanks pwal. That was the answer. However, even if that is the answer why would it not work as the old "one midi track, one Audio track" method of softsynths (since like forever?). My reason for using FX bin is it is typically faster to setup than insert synth, especially if I just want one instance of Kontakt with a simple stereo out. Which worked just fine in 8.5.3.
