Yes, please clarify: what is the difference? Should we download and install the new version of the update if we have already installed the previous one?

That's the same version as they posted last week. I downloaded it when it was first unofficially leaked in a thread last week and it was 8.5.2.222. I think they just waited to make the official announcement and send out emails so that the server wouldn't get slammed so bad right at first.

although it does say 8.5.2.222, the actual installer files are indeed different 8.5.2 update (I have since 11-12-2009, same link as below): CRC32: 0EB80F79 MD5: F5EA0D4D368E5C9F4FE93B505C26BE5A SHA-1: 4E8D622A23DFD86C4AE011284920831A8E707CDD 8.5.2 update (The latest one Here): CRC32: 756B1E6E MD5: BE3AACBB8797F906462A192BD12A6376 SHA-1: 25558C80D1EA0A32A44097BEDC2E3E2F7DF048F8 So I think they forgot to add the build number or something. EDIT: cool! snap to grid is working great in this version!! unlike the one I had downloaded since the 11th....its working just like the PRV view now...snap to grid = snap to grid....nice job cake!

I somehow don't think they's have a version out without changing the release info... but it is possible... I hope one of the Bakers amkes a public statement about this to clear it up...

So, has anyone found out if there's a difference and if so, do you install this "8.5.2" patch on top of your old 8.5.2 patch? Please clarify!!!!

Yep....I used the freebie "beeblebrox hashtab" to check the checksums...and its different as I posted above. check yourself if you have the older one. there is bytes in the difference between the sizes of the two files...so must have been some small code fix. In the 'first' one my clips were moving without snaping at all. not with this one....it snaps but does not show the grid lines. but at least its somewhat working. (there may be other changes...but that's all i've noticed) BTW, checking the help ----> about in any program doesn't specifically mean the installer wasn't changed. its up to the programmer to change that. checksums don't lie.... that's why they exsist. =)

For people having trouble with downloads stalling, here's a trick in Firefox: 1 "Pause" the download 2 Go to where you're downloading the file, and rename the ".part" file to something else 3 Cancel the download, and delete the downloaded file (but not the .part file) 4 Start a new download of the file 5 "Pause" the new download 6 Replace the new .part file with the old .part file, giving it back the proper name 7 Un-pause the download, and it should pick up where the first download left off. Hopefully this isn't too confusing.

Just one more question, how did you do your second install of 8.5.2? Did you do a complete clean install (i.e. remove everything, install 8.5, add the "latest 8.5.2" patch), or just install the "Latest 8.5.2" over the previous "11-12-2009 8.5.2"?

Personally - I would do a clean reinstall. Unless someone has taken the time to test installing the recent 8.5.2 over the older 8.5.2, how can anyone advise anything other than doing a complete clean reinstall.

There has been no new update or change to any of the program executables so there is no need whatsoever to redownload it. Any difference you may see is a placebo effect :) If we ever make a change to the code the subversion and build number of the program will reflect that.

I just downloaded the 8.5 Christmas offer. Sonar went on fine, but the 8.5.2 update wouldn't run. Win 7 x64 asks which application should be used to open it (380,965 kb). I added .exe on the end of the filename and it ran fine. -Mike
