Hi - You have posted in an existing thread that is probably only attracting minimal responses at the moment. You will likely have a better response if you post your question instead as a NewPost in the Instruments forum or the Sonar Producer and Studio forum (but not in both, unless you want the forum zealots to complain about cross-posting).

I've updated the link in the original post.

Also updated the P5 Wiki post in the Project5 forum.

All should be working now - thanks techead!

Aah! Your links are certainly active. Thank you. However, I wasn't using TecHead's links - I was using my FireFox Bookmarks, and then as a last resort I googled the wikis, which got me straight to the same URLs that we now know to be incorrect. So something has changed!

Thanks, all the same!

Try these URL's:

http://p5.sonarama.com/ instead of http://p5.sonarama.com/p5/

and

http://sonar.sonarama.com/ instead of http://sonar.sonarama.com/sonar/

They are working for me. I think the redirection may have changed so maybe the old links don't work right?

I exported all the pages as XML so I have a backup copy of the complete current contents (without revision history) of the main articles in case they disappear again for weeks at a time. I'll try to fetch the images later.

Its not going to happen over night it will take time and you will get to situations where you mess everything up and will probably have to install Sonar again. Don't worry I think it happens us all when we start out. We are always learning.

Was there ever a sticky about dither and SONAR. I've searched around the FAQs and Support docs, and while I was wading through all the dither posts I found this thread:

Ron - 5.2 Dither Off
http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=751063&mpage=1&key=

On page 3 there is a nice explanation by pattor and a few responses down Master Chief [Cakewalk]

posted "I agree, you've written an excellent and very lucid explanation. If you like, feel free to email me any final version of this and we can pin it to the top as an FAQ item."

I know it's from 2006 but I assume all the principles still apply.

mp3 encoder lame 3.98.2 update 2009/07/18 15:09:39 (permalink)
I have compiled an updated version of the lame mp3 encoder, using the latest Lame 3.98.2

Updated LAME mp3 encoder for SONAR
version 3.98.2 SSE2

Installation instructions:
- Exit Sonar if opened.
- Extract the from the zip file adequate for SONAR (32 or 64) TTSlame.dll to your SONAR program dir.

Notes:
- mp3 encoder authorization is needed in order to use it, no difference with original. No need to re-authorize if you already did.
- Measured performance is about 20% faster than 3.97 included in SONAR 8, most probably due to my compiler settings than changes in Lame 3.98.2.
- Like the original dll, this one only uses a CPU core.
- This build is optimized for SSE2 capable CPUs.

Download for SONAR32 (x86):

Download for SONAR64 (amd64):

Try changing the .asp in links to .aspx, it worked for one of them at least.

But this means that *every* crosslink in this forum is broken...

Our Cakewalk minisite link over at DigiFreq should also be on this list...

Cakewalk Music Software MiniSite at DigiFreq
http://www.digifreq.com/d...nisite.asp?ID=Cakewalk

Still working on getting the reviews and videos sections up, but that will be done soon.

Best,
Scott

Re:Helpful SONAR Resources 2009/08/13 15:35:55 (permalink)
I searched hi and low for information regarding Waves plug-ins .. and wound up calling tech-support.

So, here goes:

Problem: Waves V6 Plug-in GUI controls are not visible in Sonar 8

Description
If you use Waves Version 6 plugins, the GUI controls for the
plug-ins will not be visible if the X-Ray option is enabled.
While the plug-ins are functional, the Fx dialog will be blank.

Solution:
To disable the X-ray option, go to the Options Menu, choose Global...
Then, in the "General" tab (at the bottom of the dialog), uncheck
the "Enable X-Ray" option.

Close and re-open and Waves Fx dialogs you may have open. The GUI should
now appear.

Rather than disabling the entire X-ray option, it might be better to just disable it for Waves.  To do this, just add the 3 lines below to your XRayExclude.ini file.  (E.g. Mine is located at C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Application Data\Cakewalk\SONAR 8 Producer Edition\XRayExclude.ini)

   [EffectProps View]
;Exclude all Waves plugins, due to incompatibilities
   XRayVendorExclude1=Waves

I believe this was the default way that XRayExclude.ini gets installed, so perhaps you somehow lost your settings, or that whole file?

I've noticed that the links are fixed, now, since the change to the new forum software left the main links broken/outdated.

Great work Cakewalk.

This is a really helpful thread. It would be increasingly beneficial if it could be kept updated (with other useful user additions) from time to time.

Hello Brandon,
just wanted to give you a bump and ask your advise. I am currently using Sonar 6 and would like to upgrade to 8.5. I was considering a Dell desktop Intel core 7. Any suggestions on a model? Or do you recommend a different computer all together. Thankyou for your time.
