pdlstl Which (if any) of these formats are supported by any SONAR SAMPLER?NNXTEXS24HALion 3Kontakt (full)MachFive Thanks. Cake's own format is .SFZ which is pretty popular. Kontakt 3-5 read sfz format samples pretty well. Don't know about any of the others. I don't believe any Cake synths/samplers can read any of the native formats of the samplers you list.

Thanks. I'm wanting to buy some samples that only come in the aforementioned formats. Out of luck I guess.

But remember, if you are translating samples from, say, Kontakt or Mach 5 you may loose features that depend on scripting or the samplers internal effects. Kontakt instruments are very often much more than a bunch of wav files with some mapping.

Best route is to cough up the dough for full Kontakt. It will play libraries in several formats, plus you can have a blast making your own. The initial outlay is a significant hit to the wallet, but the purchase will eventually pay for itself because of the many free and low-cost libraries out there - that all require full Kontakt. For example, top-tier pianos can be had for $25-$50 at Sampletekk. Or a serviceable electric guitar library or lap harp from Indiginus for $5. Or oodles of bizarre sounds from Sampleism for $5 to $20. Drum kits for $15 from Drumwerks. I've got over half a terabyte of Kontakt samples that represent a total investment of maybe $400 altogether - about the cost of one good library licensed for the free Kontakt player.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Bit - You make good points but...I already own Ivory II, Superior Drummer/EZ with about 14 kits, 3 Scarbee basses, Vintage Organs etc. So I'm in good shape for my particular needs in that regard. Having said that, I typically record mostly audio with samples being used when a client is on a budget. I can provide drums, bass etc. and bill the client a little less than they would pay a player. And especially in the case of drums/bass, I usually can build more interesting/appropriate tracks than a mid-priced player would produce. However, if live drums are called for I will certainly beef up a typically bad sounding kit with samples. So, the particular samples I was wanting to purchase is Celtic Instruments from Big Fish Audio. I bought these samples about 7-8 years ago when I had an early version of Gigastudio. And they sound great. However, I've since lost the disk, there's no record of my purchase (yes I bought them) with Big Fish. And they weren't really very customer friendly when I contacted them about this. A current client is doing some stuff that some of these instruments would fit in really nicely. Celtic was on sale this weekend and although I vowed to never buy it again, at the sale price I decided I had made Big Fish suffer long enough. :) I don't record myself although I've been playing for about 47 years. I just don't find any "fun" in that anymore. So, while I like to play around with electronic sounds, the synths included with SONAR do more than I need. Whatever I purchase a specialty product, I try to build that purchase into billing. Buying Kontact just for Celtic would be a bit much in this case. Make sense? Sorry for the long response. Earl

FYI VSampler came with an older version of SONAR (don't remember the version but I did use it for a while) and it read various formats. If you still have it installed you could try it.

Thanks for the reminder! I couldn't remember which sampler that was. It's not currently installed but I wonder if it would operate okay all right in a 64 bit environment? I still have all my disks back to Pro Audio 8 so I can locate it.

I can't help you there, left all the 32bit stuff on my old machine. If my memory is correct, the version that came with SONAR was a DXi, so you would be stuck running it in 32bit SONAR (if it runs at all). Years ago, I bought the upgrade offered by the vendor which came as both DX and VST but did not install it on my new machine.
