SONAR X1 (64-bit) stomped on my SONAR 8.5.3 (32-bit) install (MY fault!)

I can no longer launch any of the Sonitus effects or included DXi instruments in SONAR 8.5.3. It seems that SONAR X1 has overwritten the files in the Shared DXi folder with 64-bit versions. I went thru this awhile back when trying to run SONAR 8.5.3 32-bit & 64-bit versions on the same machine. I finally had to give up and stick with 32-bit. I also noticed that the Plugin manager in 32-bit now says x64 after installing SONAR X1.

I have heard from many people that both versions should co-exist. If so, how do I get them to use different Shared folders?

Shared files for x86 versisons should be in Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared*and x64 versions should be in Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared*. You can let x64 SONAR versions scan the x86 VstiPlugins folder for 3rd-party plugs that don't have x64 equivalents, but other than that, never the twain shall meet.

Unless you forced X1 x64 into the x86 path, it should not have touched anything in those directories.

    My first hunch too.

I almost caused the same situation as my stubborness was not going let any stupid installer tell me where I was going to install MY files.

Brundlefly, thanks for the tip. I think my problem may have been created when I converted over from 32-bit Windows to 64 bit Windows a couple of years back. I continued using my old 'Program Files' directory (located on a different Apps hard drive) which contained my SONAR install. Since I was also doing a dual boot back into my old OS, at the time I thought it would be simpler to point the SONAR installer at my old directory instead of allowing it to be placed it in Program Files (X86).

However, part of the problem seems to be that the SONAR installer will not allow you to specify a different Shared folder during the install. It 'detects' it and the option to change it is ghosted out if I recall correctly.

Nevertheless, I think you got me onto the right path. I will try a couple of things tonight. It would be really nice if I could change the path of where SONAR thinks the Shared files should be via an .INI file or registry edit.

Sorry to dig up an older thread.   So will Sonar X1 x32 co-exists nicely with Sonar 8.3 x32 ?  If I install it and and it screws up my 8.3 I'm in a mess.

I can't see any reason why it shouldn't coexist.  I have the 64 bit version of X1, the 64 bit version of 8.5.3 as well as the 32 bit version of S8.0 on my computer and I see no problems with it.

Is there any sonic advantage to 8.5 or X1 to 8.3.  I mean in the core audio mixer or rather in the ultimate output (excluding bells and whistles as I prefer horns and drums instead:-))
