SONAR X1 INSTALLATION STEPS
Can someone please post the precise steps for installing everything that comes with the Sonar X1 download? Or can someone link me to a thread or some document that lists the steps? Thanks for any help. I attempted to install everything today but I'm not sure if I did everything correctly. I'll list what I did today with some commentary and questions and maybe someone could just fill in the blanks or make corrections if necessary. Here we go: STEP1: I ran 02_SONAR_X1_Producer.part1.exe which apparently "unpacks" and installs the content in the 02_SONAR_X1_Producer.part2.rar file, right? STEP2: I ran 03_Beatscape_1_0_2.part1.exe which I assume "unpacks" and installs the content in the 03_Beatscape_1_0_2.part2.rar file, right? I'm not sure if I did this correctly. How can you tell what the current version of Beatscape is? When I load it into the Synthrack I can't figure out how to tell what version it's running. STEP3: I ran the 04_Dimension_Pro_1_5_Setup.exe file. I got that alert that says that I have a previous version installed and I had to download that small UPDATE file from Cakewalk. Then it seemed to install Dimension pro. I can load version 1.2 or 1.5 in the Synthrack but there are no presets. When I open up Dim Pro 1.2 it wants me to register it but I can't seem to register Dim Pro 1.5. STEP?: What do you do with the 04_Dimension_Pro_1.5_Expansion_Packs.zip folder? Does the exe file extract that or do we need to do that manually? STEP?: I haven't attempted to install the Additional Content yet. I've read posts about that being a little tricky so I'll wait on that for now.

It almost seems as if the installation of X1 has become one of the best kept secrets in history. As if you have to be a member of some secret society to learn how to install it correctly. Once I figure it out on my own I'll post my success story along with the steps that got me there in this thread. There should be a video tutorial on CakeTV for the installation. That would be awesome. I just got done watching the "class" on SD3 and the step sequencer. That was awesome. I watched parts 1 through 3 and even took notes. That's the kinda thing that I'd like to see for the installation of the X1 download. Maybe I'll make a video once I figure it out and share it with the community.

Yeah. I'm gonna play around with it some more when I get a chance. I'll get it all straightened out. It's just kinda weird this time. This is my fourth "installation" since I signed on with Cakewalk. I've never had any problems before. Like, the installation itself never seemed so mysterious before as it is with X1.

If you buy a $4.99 first-person shooter from a one-man-show indy developer at the bargain bin at Software Etc. IT WILL HAVE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. How Cakewalk could issue a vastly sophisticated piece of software that serious users rely on for hugely important work and not even state the steps to install it truly boggles my mind, especially when the steps are not really apparent. And even more so that, here we are a week from launch, and there are still none.
The Beatles, Sinatra, Elton John, Zappa, Steely Dan, Howlin' Wolf, Pink Floyd, Al Green, ELO, Nickelback, at the moment. Yourself?

Wow... Almost glad to see I'm not alone in the field trying to figure out what I'm doing with this. And we haven't even talked about installing both 32 and 64 bit versions... Can't even get unpacking without freezing the process.

A couple of install questions. - A couple of months ago I installed 8.5 Producer. To get it to install I needed to disable everything in startup. This was on a new system with windows 7. Then I turned back on what was disabled. Do I need to disable everything in startup with X1 to install? I am guessing yes.
- Does 8.5 uninstall cleanly? I am wondering if it would be better to ghost back to before 8.5 or run the 8.5 uninstall? It would sure be easier to just uninstall 8.5 before installing X1 as opposed to doing a ghost recovery to an earlier point. I only have a 60 GB SSD and don't have space for both on my system.

There's no need to remove 8.5 in my view. Make sure you don't run the install program from external drive (my mistake...). X1 will install (by default) in a different folder. Figure out at least 8 GB of space.... (That is not including Dimension Pro...) I assume you mean you have only 60GB on your OS drive (C) ? Personnally, I place audio folders on another drive, but it has pros and cons (especially over the years and upgrades). The last thing I want to see is a C: drive becoming crowded. Rob

Hi Rob, Actually I have 80 GB my mistake I mispoke. Due to limitations I thought I would remove 8.5 to save space. On my secondary internal drive I have 2 TB of space (D Drive). That is where I downloaded the install files. I plan to install from there to the C drive. I am hoping 8.5 uninstalls cleanly. I could install X1 and then uninstall 8.5. Unless I hear otherwise I will do that. Then I can use both for a while until I am comfortable using X1. I put my data on the D drive so as to not do excessive writing to the C SSD. Thanks Kim

I run into an installing problem with Part2"The content in the 02_SONAR_X1_Producer.part2.rar file": when this unpacks, I get 3 folders: "Documentation, Install, & Utilities". I clicked on the "Install" folder and get this: Setup-6.bin <-- Setup-7.bin Setup-8.bin Setup-9.bin All 4 of those files have the same icon before them (when Windows can't recognize the program needed to open it). I'm using Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Why isn't Vista recognizing the "Install" files and how do I fix this? Thanks,
