SONAR X1 LE; i playback my MIDI, AUDIO files on WASAPI driver it makes a cracking sound
Hello everyone I have had some troubles with my driver which is now fixed so I'm very glad, however the driver which I have now (WASAPI) is not fully functional the way I want it. As you can read it in the title of this thread i have a cracking sound when i playback all of my files.. It's not due to volume cause if I put it on the MME 32 bit driver it's perfectly fine, however I cannot use this driver because it doesn't function the way it should, with the WASAPI driver it does but then it makes a cracking sound. I hope if some people answer and help me fix it will be of good use for other help-seeking people. Thanks in advance kind regards, Sige

As I answered this in your other thread in X-series forum: You simply shouldn't expect the mobo soundchips to function flawlessly. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. They simply don't cut it for DAW-work. You can try increasing the buffers or download ASIO4ALL driver. ASIO4ALL has really helped many mobo-chip users. Best solution for you would be an external USB-soundcard. If your projects are not heavy, and you don't use heavy soft synths and other VSTs, your laptop should do ok. I also added a post in your other thread.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

The Audio Interface is the heart of all DAW recording. Any attempt to work without one will probably fail.

The point is you will spend a lot of wasted time until you purchase an audio interface. I'm not being a smart arse, I am just trying to give you the best solution.

Cactus is right, Sige. I was initially encouraged by the low latency performance of WASAPI. But it quickly became apparent that the drivers were unstable, and I experienced the same crackling that you are. The protocol for WASAPI was somewhat loosely writtten, and left up to the manufacturers for implimentation. Interestingly, my experience was on an older Toshiba Satellite. I don't know if WASAPI in general is flawed, or if it's Toshiba's implimentation, but I quickly lost faith in it. Ultimately, you'll want to get an external interface with solid WDM or ASIO drivers.

Thanks for the responses robert and cactus, could you tell me what the price is for an average audio interface? A decent one which is good for a beginner like myself. Grtz

I have an audio interface though, a Roland Tri-capture, so each time i record music I have to connect it to my laptop?
