SONAR X1 Producer Expanded (future upgrades)

If I purchase Sonar Expanded now, will I have to upgrade 'Expanded' everytime I upgrade Sonar to X1D or X2 etc.?

SONAR X1D and X1D Expanded have separate installers.

New versions eg SONAR 5, 6 X1 etc have always been complete installations not dependent on previous content.

If Cakewalk continue with the current line up for the future eg X2, then we will have 4 versions of SONAR:
Essential, Studio, Producer and Producer Expanded. I deliberately haven't included such variations as Home Studio, Music Creator and LE versions etc.

I thought Expanded was separate 'add on' software that runs on top of and enhances Producer since Cakewalk says it is NOT a stand alone product.  I was wondering if I will have to 'keep up' with Expanded the way I keep up with Sonar releases.

I would have guessed you would just get an even more discounted price for X2 cause you already have expanded. The way I see it, there are now 4 distinct levels of X1 that you can get, they just added a more 'advanced' version on top of producer, rather than it being an add-on package as such.

But I'm just speculating here. X1 Producer is all I see the need for. Expanded doesn't add much for me.

Expanded was released after the X1C Producer Update and that became the base requirement for the installation of Expanded. You have to have SONAR Producer to install Expanded.

When X1D was released you didn't have to buy the update to X1D Expanded, it was free. Neither did you have to install the X1D update then an update to Expanded. You simply select the X1D Expanded update, download it and install it - simple as that.

Expanded is an option that can only be installed on top of Producer. When Producer is updated Cakewalk provide a seperate update files for Producer or Producer Expanded depending on which version you have.

Now you don't have to have Expanded. In the future I don't expect that you will have to pay again for the Prochannel modules you already have just like you don't have to pay for 3rd party plugins unless they release a new version. Point release updates are usually free.

I think folks are over thinking this.

again take a look at the X1D update and you will see that there were 4 update files available as I already mentioned in my previous Post.

When X2 comes out (If that's what it will be called) I'm sure Cakewalk will find a way for us to move forward from our current position without penallsing us financially.

    Tks, probably worth trying.
I am interested in how MusicXML works (with Sibelius). Anyone use it?

I can't see Cake going back on expanding the ProChannel.  It seems like a necessary function, esp. if they intend to sell  more modules.  And the FX chain, which seems like a natural evolution.  I would think that both would be included in the next upgrade to SONAR Producer - X2 Producer or whatever they call it.  They have usually wrapped the "new" functionality of the last product into the new one.  Expanded was a little different since it was a paid upgrade, but it has been almost two years since X1 came out, so think of it as a paid X2 under a different name.

Otherwise, there'll be a mess of mad customers if they release the next Producer version and you can't see or scroll your PC and bought modules.  Most likely they'll piss off some by giving away free some of the modules w/ the next paid upgrade - one's people have already bought.  We saw that w/ Dimension, etc.
