SONAR X1 Studio for only $79 till Feb 29th - to buy or not to buy
Currently I'm using Sonar Home Studio 7, my only reason for upgrading would be for the Skylight feature. I like the idea of having my tracking on one monitor and the mixer on another. Other then that I'm total fine with SHS7. Also, clarify is the upgrade Sonar X1d a free upgrade or is it a additional cost. I know $79 is a great deal seeing how I only paid $49 for SHS7 but I don't know if it's going to be more of a headache setting it up to work with what I got.

I never looked back (and had no problems) updating from SH to SONAR (tho that was 6-7 years ago). The same engine, I believe, but different user interface, which is what you are after so that shouldn't be a problem. It will take some time to adjust to that, tho. THe X1d is free. @

AT - thanks for the comment. Question for you, what Audio Interface are you using? I'm hoping my Line6 Tone Port UX8 will play well with it. Also, does any one know if there are any known issue with the Focusrite VRM and Sonar X1? Thanks

I use a TCK 48 - before that Presonus FP or FireStation. I don't think it would have problems w/ hardware your HS uses. @

I too have SHS7 and was browsing here to find some info on upgrading to X1. I was new to the game when I got SHS7 and had a little difficulty getting it to work with my M-Audio Interface, but finally got it. Are there any major issues that you think I might come across if I upgrade. Keep in mind when I first got SHS7 I did not have much experience with the software. Just looking for some more thoughts is all.

I bought SONAR X1 Studio today and will be downloading it when I get home from work. I also picked up the T-RackS 3 Deluxe which includes a choice of additional T-RackS Singles, the Black 76 or a White 2A for FREE. I picked that up for $99 since I already owned T-RackS 3 Standard. I use the compressor and eq on everything. Looking forward to playing with my new toys.

So far so good, SONAR X1 Studio is playing well with my CPU, TonePort UX8 & VRM. All my projects and VST's were moved successfully and I did a mix and notice a big difference in sound!?!?!? I'm really liking the un-dock feature of the mixer. Works will with multi monitor set ups. I'll post a song on here in a bit

the biggest thing you have to "worry" about is the learning curve. the keyboard shortcuts are all different, the context menus are not in the same place you'd expect from using SHS7 (or any sonar version prior to X1). but it is a very nice system. I love the HUD Smart Tool! I use it all the time! however, if your hardware works with SHS7 it will work with X1. there shouldn't be a problem - but you'll need to set it up the same way you set it up in SHS7 - so if you had trouble (and I remember helping you, paul) then you might have trouble setting it up in X1 too, but you just need to do the same thing you did in SHS7 to get it working.

mt, glad it is working. As beagle sez, the conventions are different and you will fumble around looking for commands and "where the hell is that function" for a while. But most of it makes sense. I put most stuff other than the timeline in the dock and float it to the 2nd (smaller) monitor. Float the synth I'm working w/, too. Hitting the "D" key gets rid of the dock, leaving the synth. Pretty slick. If both montiors are the same size, you can stretch the timeline across both of them for mixing and get a nice, long view of the song. D, I (inspector) and B (browser) can give you an even longer view.

I guess what I mean is, will I have any issues opening or finding the files, or will they just come up when I choose to Open Existing Project? By the way MT, like the above link.

For me, they come up when I choose Open Existing Project. Not sure how you have your Cakewalk Projects set up on your computer. I think mine is the default path of C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Projects.... or something like that, sorry not at home to check. Glad you dig the link, still needs some tweaking

you won't have any issues opening prior projects as long as you don't uninstall SHS7. when you uninstall SHS7 you will lose any FX or plugins which did not specifically come with X1 Studio but did come with SHS7 (there are a few). also, you might have an issue if you used any 32bit DX or DXi plugins on the 64bit version. only a couple of the 32bit DX plugins were updated for 64bit. also some 3rd party VST's don't work in the 64bit version under bitbridge, but the only problem I've ever had with that was Guitar Rig 3 wouldn't work on 64bit. the workaround for that is to install both 32bit and 64bit versions of X1 and if you can't get something to open or work in the 64bit version, you should be able to get it to work in the 32bit version (EXCEPT for the 32bit DX stuff - those won't work on a 64bit Operating system at all).

Another question guys. I would rather download from the site instead of having it mailed to me. Is this an option? Also when I went to purchase i had the option for $59.00 to " Download for SONAR Producer, Studio, or Home Studio Customers or 79.00 for any registered customer. Which do I choose. Now I have SHS 7

SHS7 is Home Studio, so select that option. Yes, it's a download. Depending on traffic, it may take an hour or two to get your download key. Watch your e-mail.

Think I screwed up. i purchased X1 Essential Upgrade, but I'm thinking that this is an upgrade to X1. The files that I saved from Cakewalk are Sonar X1 Welcome Kit 2 Sonar X1 Essential XGear. I was advised to save instead of Download so I save to a folder on my desktop. Not sure what to do now. Could someone tell me if I'm correct.

Paul - the $79 upgrade deal we were talking about before was for X1 Studio. that sale was over on 2/29 and it's now back at regular price. if you bought the upgrade from SHS7 (Home Studio) to X1 Essentials for $59, then you DID buy the correct update for X1 Essentials, just not the sale of X1 Studio. so what you bought IS correct and it IS an update to X1, but it's X1 Essentials, not X1 Studio. nothing to worry about except that you could have had X1 Studio for $20 more. You didn't buy the wrong thing, just not the best deal is all (IMO). X1 Essentials is a great program and a very good update for SHS7. install it and enjoy!
