SONAR X1 and M-Audio ProFire 2626 Issue

I have a problem that I hope someone can help me with.  I am setting up a small studio using an M-Audio ProFire 2626 and Cakewalk SONAR X1.  I installed SONAR X1, then installed the latest Profire 2626 driver for Windows 7 64-bit. Using the ProFire 2626 Control Panel, I disabled all the digital inputs/outputs and software returns 9 thru 26, leaving only the 8 analog inputs/outputs and the first 8 software returns enabled.  The monitors are connected to analog outputs 1 & 2.

I then opened SONAR X1 and tried to play the audio tutorial project, but I had no sound and no activity in the meters.  I rebooted the computer and tried playing the audio tutorial again, and to my surprise, I had sound and activity in the Sonar X1 meters.  However, while SONAR X1 was playing, I opened the ProFire 2626 Control Panel to verify that I could see activity on the meters for the software returns, and the audio playback instantly dropped to a gritty, fuzzy hiss. and all meter activity was lost in SONAR.  I never saw the SW return activity in the 2626 Control Panel mixer.

I checked the audio config in SONAR X1, and everything seems to be set correctly, however, nothing happens when I click the ASIO Panel button.  I think it is supposed to open the 2626 Control Panel from within SONAR, but it doesn't.

For some reason SONAR X1 and the 2626 Control Panel do not seem to be working well together.  I can get SONAR X1 to work as long as I don't touch the 2626 Control Panel, but it won't work if I do anything with the Control Panel.  I've done the 2626 driver uninstall and re-install a few times with no success.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting the 2626 Control Panel to work well with SONAR X1?  Any ideas about what could be causing the incompatibility?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jay

I always open the ASIO control panel from outside of Sonar.  I have a PResonus Audio Box 1818 VSL and it has a little UI application that sits in my system tray, and that's what I open to review/configure ASIO settings for the interface.

I had MEGA problems when the sample rates did not agree between Sonar and the interface.  Check that out.

Also, make sure your interface is the default Windows audio device.

Lastly, make sure you can play audio files outside of Sonar, such as through Windows Media Player, using your interface, to rule out some other issue outside of Sonar.

Please post back with results, and I will try to help you further if I can,

I have a 2626 and use it with sonar x2 w/ no problems.. I know with 2626 you must turn on interface first b4 turning on the computer. Just a friendly recomendation though you may have better luck posting in the hardware part of the forums or computers. Some of those guys test gear out and can better assist you with trouble shooting. Sounds like could be driver issues but you may have to disable your internal sound card if you have one. Just something to try...Try routing the main outs for your monitors to different outs and or SW returns you may stumble across a setup that produces sound. One last note if you R going to use headphone jack two the manufacter actually recommends changing the the main outputs as I stated above. Oh and READ THE MANUAL or PDF. WWW.M-AUDIO.com /support/manuals/profire 2626/ click on user guide.
