[:@] SONAR X1d BLUE SCREEN
Hi, I am a Sonar user since version 5. Since version 8, I find that the software lacks stability. I bought the version X1 producer in December 2010. Since then, it was impossible to use the software. I have blue screen repeatedly, cakewalk support tells me this will be fixed in the next update. We are X1d version and there is no improvement. The support made me believe I could have a hardware problem, so I bought a new laptop, but unfortunately, I did not improve, then yes, I paid $ 1300 for this new pc laptop. My setup is not yet out of recommendations from Cakewalk. ASUS Laptop with Windows 7 Roland Octa-Capture (ASIO mode). Logically these two things are compatible. You have these same problems? I like Sonar, but there I was forced to buy Cubase 6 be able to work. Marc

BSOD's are generally hardware related ie drivers. Make sure your laptop has the latest drivers for ALL components (audio, video, chipset etc). Cheers, Jerry

Hi Jerry, yes, my laptop has the latest drivers. The problem is not hardware I think. When I use SONAR X1 with ASIO mode is worse than when I use SONAR X1 WDM mode. But in both cases, for example if I add an instrument, I have a blue screen. To solve my problems, I bought Cubase 6 on the same laptop and the same instrument of my example is well supported and does not make me a blue screen. With my soundcard (Roland Octa-capture), you have X1 SONAR LE, I installed it and I have no problem with blue screen, it is the X1 Producer version makes me these blue screens. Regards Marc

Wow... I bet I could make it work... with very little effort. I have built many systems from scratch and never had the problem you are blogging. Whenever people come with these kind of situations, I just want to lay my hands on their computer like it is that sweet woman that drives me crazy. I know that when I make contact, all will be well and absolutely heavenly. In summary, I want to f... your computer. ... lol

Blue screens are caused by Hardware and Drivers Only. Not software! So Sonar is not the cause of your blue screens. It your hardware or a driver that is causing it. If you look at the correct cause, then youll find the solution to your hardware/driver problem (not software problem) Cj

You've been using Sonar since version 5 and have been having BSODs for over a year and your just joining the forum now? Dude, these guys could have figured out your problem AGES ago. Cake support is great but they can't know everything about every system. People here have Sonar installed on all sorts of wacky systems with wacky devices. Anyway, there is no reason Sonar should be giving you the BSOD. I've done horrendous things to many computers over the years and have NEVER gotten a BSOD. It just doesn't make sense. What other hardware/programs/etc have you transferred over to the laptop? How did you install Sonar? Did you install and configure Windows yourself?

I recently had Blue screen errors since going to win7 64bit. And yes it is not anything to do with SONAR (which I must admit I knew first off). Anyway for me it turned out to be Video card drivers. I reverted back to the drivers that win7 installed itself instead of the latest versions from Nvidia. Not saying thats what you should do but you need to do some troubleshooting for sure. Hi guys, sorry but your answers are not completely right, I´m no superman but experienced things over the years. Software CAN cause Blue Screens, when it has incompabilities with hardware. We had it here with Samplitude, which caused BSOD´s like crazy, while Cubase was running fine on that very same machine! Reason for that was, that Samplitude had a problem with UAD2, and could not properly talk to that card. Sonar is a bit picky with plug ins and hardware as well, so you´ll have to check things out. For example, unplug your Octacapture and run Sonar with ASIO 4all on the native I/O of the laptop. If it runs fine, there´s a problem with the interface. Most of the times, when BSOD´s are related to hardware, it´s a memory failure, so run memtest and check your memory.. For me since X1 expanded, things are very stable here, can´t remember my last crash.. Good luck submarin

Hi, I may be the solution. I installed Windows 7 again (OK), all updated drivers (OK). I did a memory test with MemTest (OK). I installed X1 SONAR with different patch up X1D, I configured X1 mode with ASIO sound card (Octa-Capture), I started working with SONAR and then BSOD (F. ..) . I reformatted my laptop, installed windows 7 in the English version (I'm french;-)) because at earlier I had installed the French version of Windows 7. Installation of drivers etc. ... And then I have no blue screen, for now. SONAR is it not compatible with Windows 7 which is not in English? I tried this because all the people who have these problems are not with windows 7 in English version. Have you any idea? Marc

My next step, just to find where the issue is, would be to try to get Sonar to work with a different sound card. Perhaps use the onboard sound card just to see if Sonar will run. I know you won't have good performance results, but you might be able to determine if the issue is a driver with the Octa-Capture. Good luck! I know it is awful and fustrating running down these problems. We should be making music , right! I feel for you.

SONAR is it not compatible with Windows 7 which is not in English? I'd imagine there would have to be at least some people here sucessfully running non-English OS'...? Although it's probably irrelevant, I've seen issues with the engineering software I support at work when a point and comma are reversed (from English) as the decimal separator; i.e., 0,01 vs. 0.01.

Yes, maybe he should just use the English version. but if other languages are available for the installation is that it has been verified by Cakewalk.

BSOD's issues are an issue with hardware or drivers related to hardware. Not Sonar. There will be no specific issues to do with with not using the English language. So you've updated your drivers. Have you updated the chipset drivers? (motherboard). Have you updated the firmware of your devices that can be updated (including your BIOS). Check out my footer, I suggest you list your hardware/software in a similar fashion (more detail the better). Cheers.

Regional settings can have unexpected impact. Even when the install is English! I have many customers in English-speaking Canada who've found that life is easier if they just set their workstations to US English - although you'd think the differences between US and Canadian English would be trivial. Even some of my French-speaking Canadian users do the same. However, every locale-specific problem I've ever seen has been at the application level. I have never heard of a bluescreen being cured by changing regional settings. More likely, it was the re-installation of Windows that did the trick.
