This type of trial was a big influence in my decision to purchase SONAR Platinum sooner rather than later a few days ago. I was inclined to buy Platinum, anyway, because SONAR is such a good DAW, to me, but I think this is a good move by you, Cakewalk. What can better help a person decide to make the purchase better than an opportunity to use the software for a good enough time period involving the full functionality of the software?

I think this is cool, Cakewalk. With a fully working SPlat they will really see what have been done since X3, and see how the rolling updates works as they come. I love them
All the best.

Interesting marketing strategy. Will former Xer's then be offered a special price to upgrade. What thanks will be offered to those who did move right away to help cake move forward. This is not condemnation, just noticing the offer. Great offer, by the way. This doesn't even affect me as I have pro now. Maybe the bakers will send along a little 'thank you' to the early SPLAT investors. Remember, no condemnation, just noticing.😇

This thread deserves more traffic ...
I find it very impressive that Cakewalk decided to give the X3 Producer holdouts this opportunity to take SPlat
(fully featured ) for a 2 month test drive

The most satisfying upgrade I have ever done as a SONAR user has been the the upgrade from X3 Producer to SPlat

I'm with you Kenny, very satisfied with the upgrade to Platinum from X3. If anything, I thought my aging computer would baulk at trying to run software that was written 6 years after my computer was built, and was no speed demon at the time. I find, however, Platinum to be super stable, and I feel confident that, as far as a DAW is concerned, I can just get to laying down tracks and making music.
And even though the most important thing to me is stability and ease of workflow, I do like the extra functionality that Cakewalk has added as this has also added to the enjoyment of creating music.
Can't recommend it enough.

When I upgraded from X3 to Platinum I was happy with the deal at that time. Why should a present opportunity created to attract other users now affect my happiness about my purchase all those months ago. What obligates Cakewalk to do something else for me now. Nothing. We should be glad as the more users that are on the current version the better for Cakewalks bottom line and the better the development and future of Cakewalk as a business.

Well... they kind of already ARE doing something with the $99 upgrade which is a pretty ridiculous deal if this year goes like last year did.

OK OK, after being enticed by all the emails on Platinum, I've finally just downloaded the free 60-day trial. I've been off the forums here for such a long time because I have been completely, totally satisfied with my X3 Producer. I absolutely love it. However, after watching some of the videos on Platinum's amazing features, I hadda have it LOL! So, here I go...

  • what shared components will be effected by installing the trial? will they be rolled back if the rial is uninstalled?

This is a wonderful move... I am "moved" even though I've loved SPlt since day one... Awesome and wise... Love you, Bakers... allowing all who desire to experience how far this lovely DAW has come since X3...

Is it possible you installed the regular trial from http://www.cakewalk.com/P.../SONAR/Try-SONAR#start
instead of the extended trial version from https://www.cakewalk.com/SONAR-Platinum-Extended-Trial?

I do not have any more details than you do about the promo. How did you install the product, using the Command Center or from you account?

I sent a PM to Andrew (the OP) about your posts. Maybe he can help.

We'll look into this Monday. That is odd. It is the fully functional version with save/export.

I tried Platinum when it first came out. I tried to download the new 60 day trial and it said my trial period was up, so I guess if you tried it originally you don't qualify for this one, alas....

Hi, I am a bit confused about the renewal offer.

I successfully installed the SPlat 60 day trial and am using it now.
However, the latest emails I am getting tell me that the rolling updates offer is ending soon.

Does that mean if I pay $99 now I own SPlat now and all updates for a year?
I not sure at what point I paid for the upgrade to SPlat.
If I wait till the end of the 60 days I assume it will be $149 for me to upgrade?

Thanks in advance.

I went from X2 to SPlat, I was extremely impressed. And so far, (machine packed in shipping container right now), it was running like a train under bootcamp on my Mac Pro too.

Even if you ignore the "amazing features", there are lots of little unsung improvements that you may never notice but that are just there and which make life easier.

...I do wish there had been more, but - hey - :)

Also, everybody talks about the CCC Command Center. Well, I was really skeptical because I have poor internet here so I have never used the CCC.

But what HAS happened is Sonar has been broken up into individual downloads which means whenever there's an update, all I need to download (directly - NOT with the CCC) is the Sonar exe and the Help file. Two files of 500Meg and 600Meg (Sonar exe grew from 390 in Hopkinton to 500 in Newwotzitport...), something I can do in 2 hours, including downloads that break down and need restarting.

Also, I didn't want a subscription. I got really loud when I heard that subs were to be introduced.

No problem, the 1-year version is just like in the old days. Almost, but easier to understand. You buy the current version and you get updates for a full 12 months. No further obligation.

@AndrewRossa (or anyone who can answer this)....

I'm running Sonar X3 Producer and am interest in upgrading to SPLat (ha).....but, my setup is an offline one.  Love it that way - no virus protection needed, fast and streamlined machine, blah blah.....

Anyway, not sure how the whole Command Center setup is going to work for me.  I can certainly pull down the files, and xfer via stick to my machine, but if the new Platinum paradigm is sure that it requires internet connectivity (software continued authorization, etc.), then am I in a jam?

So, anyone in this same situation?  Need Halp here.....
