SONAR X3 melodyne install and X3 updates
Hello All-
I am just now getting around to installing X3 Producer. I have 4 questions:
1. I already have Melodyne Editor installed on my box. Do I need to to do anything custom with the install of Melodyne Essential that comes with X3, such as not allow it to be installed, or can I just let it be installed using all the defaults? I want to continue to use Editor as a stand-alone rather than Essential. Can I simply ignore Essential (assuming it installed with X3) and continue to use Editor?
2. BTW I did not see Melodyne mentioned in the install documentation. Where in the install is Melodyne located? Just curious.
3. I see Updates SONARX3b thu SONARX3e at the Cake support site. Is there no "SONARX3a" update?
4.After my X3 install, do I need to download and execute all the updates (b-e), or just e?

Run an advanced install and uncheck Melodyne from the pick list. SONAR requires the VST3 version of Melodyne 2.1 for Region FX so make sure that it is installed. There is no user selectable path for VST3 plug-ins. The 64bit VST3 version of Melodyne is installed in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Celemony\Melodyne" and is called Melodyne.vst3. The DVD shipped X3. The original downloads were patched to X3a. You will need the X3e update http://www.cakewalk.com/S...13361/SONAR-X3e-Update. Forget the rest of the updates, X3e is cumulative. Thanks for the quick reply, Scook. I need to ask what an "Advanced Install" is, and how do I do that? Also, I am not sure what is meant by the "Region FX" in "SONAR requires the VST3 version of Melodyne 2.1 for Region FX so make sure that it is installed." If I read more about X3 I can probably find more on Region FX, but since you mention it I will ask. BTW, I just looked in my program Files directory and found the Melodyne.vst3 file on the exact path you mention above. That must be my version of Melodyne Editor I installed a few year back. Will that satisfy the VST3 version requirement for Region FX? When I look at the properties for Melodyne singletrack (Program Files/Celemony/Melodyne singletrack/Melodyne singletrack.exe), it reads "Product Version 2.1.2.2".

Everything in your Melodyne installation sounds correct and current. Run the SONAR installer. One of the first screens displayed running the SONAR installer provides for basic and advanced install. Select advanced install. The advanced install throws up a pick list of items to install. Everything in the basic install is selected. Uncheck Melodyne in the pick list to skip the Melodyne install process. Then continue installing SONAR.

FWIW, a Region FX uses ARA, the built-in clip or region-level plugin "connection". For Melodyne in particular, no data transfer is required vs. when using it as a standard VST plugin. Hopefully we'll see more plugins using this protocol in the future as it's a very convenient method.

I installed X3 and when it came to Melodyne it told me my version was outdated and took me to the download page which I downloaded the newer version. Now when I try to use Melodyne it comes up with a screen that says you need to register, I put in the code from my cakewalk page, then it says this serial number has not been registered, log in to your account for melodyne. I do that it says invalid user, I reset the password do it all over again same thing. So uninstall Melodyne and install the version that I downloaded 2.1.2.002 same thing all over again, what did I miss

From my Melodyne activation page You have 1 of a possible 2 activations in use for the following computers: unnamed computerYour Celemony product can only be activated or deactivated using the Activation Assistant, which is integrated into the program itself. If you would like to make changes, therefore, please launch your Celemony product and open the assistant by choosing License from the Window menu. You will find more detailed information about the activation and deactivation of your Celemony product in Chapter One of the user manual or in our FAQ

It forced me to download, if I uninstall it and do and advanced install will that get me around this issue?

There is no need to run the SONAR installers again. Post #8 would indicate the product is registered. Try running the stand alone version of Melodyne. If it launches, all you may need to do is run the update. This really has nothing to do with the original post. It would have been better addressed in a separate thread.

I have tried stand alone also, the issue is X3e comes with the updated version of Melodyne I have opened a case with their Tech support
