SONAR X3e PRODUCER + RME UFX (USB) = Crakling / inaudible sound
Hi Folks ! I have an issue with my brand new laptop (HP omen 15ax045nf) + RME UFX (USB) + SONAR X3e PRODUCER. I am not a novice, but i don't understand why i have (big) crakling noises until inaudible sounds ! My old laptop made no issues like this. (With a less powerfull processor !) I put sonar and all latest drivers for UFX on my new laptop, tried MMCSS, up the buffer size latency, and so on... The project i use is very simple, using 3 plugins and 4 tracks with songs playback for live utility. I use it on the lower latency buffer size (48 samples) because i use a virtual amp. I start the project, the songs works well, and then appear some little crackling (15 min after starting the project), and few minutes later... inaudible sound like "KKKKKFFFFFrrrkrkfkrkfrkfrkk" non stop digital crackling. If i stop the project and restart, the big crackling are staying. i need to stop the AUDIO ENGINE of sonar, and start again, but the noises cam back few minutes later... My configuration is : CPU : Intel Core i7 6700HQ - 2.6 GHz1 To HDD - SATA - (7200 tours-min) + 128 Go SSD - (M.2)RAM : 8 Go (2 x 4 Go)NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M - 4 Go GDDR5 SDRAMUSB 2 & 3. Do you have any ideas ? Thank you, Dominique.

1. Have you run a latency monitor to see if something is happening behind the scenes? 2. Do you have your wireless NIC disabled?

Do you have the latest drivers for your RME and also your chipset and USB ports?

I had to disable my Ethernet adapter in device manager on my laptop to get that message to go away in LatencyMon. After that, my RME Babyface Pro has no issues with Sonar Platinum. Mark.

Hello, -are you using the usb 3 port -if so. try usb2 - are using turbo boost ? if so-disable it Anti Virus ? try what happens if you disable it Also please note the tip of mark (above), to disable the ethernet connection. Hope that helps.

You can give a try larger latency buffer size as 48 samples- 96 - 192 could be a right step. Which driver a you using?

in Sonar, under Preferences / Audio / Sync and Caching -> have you disabled read/write caching ? also, have you selected only 1 output for your RME ?

I don't know if you game but uninstalling the NVidia GeForce Experience software could definitely help, all you need is the driver really. Shaved some microseconds of my DPC values, I have a 980M in my laptop. Also, you could use Throttlestop to disable C-States and other CPU throttling options. I have a regular i7 6700 in my laptop and it helped, I don't know if it will also work for the mobile (HQ) type, sometimes they lock in some features.
And yes, while RME supports USB3 ports, I think USB2 ports are generally preferred if you have the option. Although my laptop only has USB3 and my FireFace UCX works fine. I usually keep the buffer at 128 or maybe 64 samples though.

Wdf01000 is the Windows Driver Framework, unfortunately all that tells you that the problem is "a driver". ACPI has to do with batteries and power saving I think. Try disabling any "smart power handling" stuff. And use Throttlestop to keep your CPU from throttling. Some laptops do this by design to keep from overheating though, so keep an eye on the temperatures. If you regularly reach 80C you should consider throttling down a bit.

I'll probably start a new thread. I'm having issues with my laptop and the RME UCX I got recently. Can't record without stutters and the CPU meter shows all the cores spiking when that happens. Can't playback a small project - four audio tracks plus EZDrummer2 which is frozen - at less than 256 samples without clicks or pops.

Yes start your own thread hijacking makes it confusing as to who is being helped. I see the OP never checked back so we don't even know if the tips given above helped. Laptops are a hard one and some laptops will never work perfectly for low latency recordings. Things are sometimes burnt into the bios on laptops and cannot be tamed. My two big items are Battery management and wireless. Just disabling those 2 items in device manager works for me 90% of the time. But I also turn off all un needed apps in W7- MSCONF or W10 -processes list.
