SONAR and FW-1082?

Hello All -

I could use some help getting SONAR to read FW-1082 faders and other controls.

I have chosen Native Protocol in TASCAM's control panel, and I have chosen the FW-1082 as the control surface in SONAR. FW-1082 now shows up in the Tools drop-down of SONAR. I have installed TASCAM's SONAR plug-in. Also, I have downloaded latest TASCAM drivers and SONAR 5.2 update. The hardware and software communicate fine inTASCAM Mon Mix Mode, but don't seem to see one another in Computer Mode.

Any ideas? Thanks very much.

Well, if it's anything like the FW-1884, there is a couple things you should check:
1.) Firewire interface. I would suggest the adaptec fireconnect 4300 (TI chipset):http://adaptec.com/worldwide/product/proddetail.html?sess=no&language=English+US&prodkey=AFW-4300&cat=%2fTechnology%2fFireWire%2fFireWire+1394+Adapters
Tascam interfaces are quite fickle with the firewire interface they are attached to. I ran mine successfully on a P4 DFI board, and semi-successful with a Nforce4's onboard connector. These issues went away with that card.
2.) Double check that the DLL is present in c:\program files\cakewalk\shared surfaces directory.
3.) Go into Options->Control Surfaces, click add; Select the tascam device. The select the Tascam control ports for both midi in and midi out.

    Hopefully this should work.

    Thanks Derek -

I notice in Options>Control Surfaces, for Midi in and out I am only given the choice "FW1082 Port 1" not "FW1082 Control" as you suggest, or as is written in TASCAM's SONAR application notes. "Control" simply doesn't appear as an option. Could this be significant?

    Thanks again for your time.

I'm fairly certain it should be FW1082 Control.

I would suggest updating the firmware, and running the latest drivers.

The updated firmware improves the midi reliability:

Here's a link to the updated drivers:

This document walks you through the setup:

And for the completion aspect, here is the sonar FW-1082 driver:
