SONAR and it's plugin mgmt

I'll admit, I've never been a fan. When I upgraded my system recently I lost a whole bunch of my synth relationships. Most of them were due to installing the 64-bit version of SONAR but even after going back to 32-bit (which of course means I'm stuck there until I phase out these older projects) there are some that just refuse to reconnect with their instances in projects.

Two of the biggest culprits? DimPro and Rapture! Not that they're the only ones but that's extra frustrating.

In fact, I just ran a rapture update and lost all the connections I had with it in projects I started as recently as this week. From an update? C'mon man.

Also particularly annoying is that the "replace synth" command doesn't have built-in intelligence to try and load the preset in memory. Which, for most identical replacements would save some serious heartache. No, I've got to redesign the synth patch all over again.

This has always been an area where I think better asset tools should exist, I've been harping on it since SONAR 6.

Me too.  But then I reinstalled Rapture and selected the 32-bit option instead of 64.  Now old projects containing Rapture open ok again.

I have hung on to version 1.2 of DimPro and not installed the 1.5 update.

My main problem is with NI Battery 3.  Previous versions included both VSTi and DXi, but DXi has now been dropped with the recent updates.  Unfortunately, for no real reason, I had been using DXi in most of my projects.  To make these old projects usable, I need to boot up in XP (which still has an older version of Battery installed), open the project in Sonar 7, save the Battery kit, close the project, reboot in W7, open the project, delete Battery DXi from the synth rack and insert Battery VST, load the kit, re-route the drums if necessary, change the track inputs for the relevant synth-audio tracks, and finally change the out-port to Battery for every single item in the drum map list.  It gets so tedious that I lose the will to live.

Which is precisely why "Replace Synth" should be able to catch that.
