SONAR (and me) in Recording Magazine
A couple of years ago I submitted one of my songs to the "Reader's Tapes" section of Recording Magazine. I never heard anything from them so I just forgot about it and went on with the program. Imagine my surprise when I opened this months issue and there was a review of my song! As I said, it was submitted two years ago at least, when I was still using X1 and Session Drummer 3 (I use AD2 now almost exclusively) Here's a link if anyone is interested in reading the review: http://www.recordingmag.com/tapereviews/2016/02/310.html MODS: if this is the wrong forum for this I apologize, move it at your discretion. Thanks.

Have you replaced Session Drummer 3 with AD2 yet? Kudo on 3 stars. I dream of getting 2 stars on any of my projects.

Nice! Agree about the snare sound. Disagree about the loss of energy during the piano solo. Yeah, it's less filled up but, this sort of thing happens in blues. Drops a bit when the piano solos, builds back up when the guitar enters..... works just fine, to me. Adds interest, draws you in. Nice job!

Yes the drums are very old school drum machine and far from sounding real. Certainly a re mix with better samples and a bit more dynamics would rectify the low quality of the drums. Otherwise good job! Seems they need to change the name of the Mag??

I like the song! I do agree with the drum part...I think maybe the piano solo could have been louder itself. The guitar rocks (wish I could play like that!) Can you post the song with the new AD replacement? I for one would love to hear it. Also I Love the vocals. What kind of Mike/processing did you do there? Nice clear (without too much reverb) and focused. Even at the end when all instruments come in.

Thanks Ken, it WAS a surprise, after 2+ years! konradh Nice!
Thanks Konrad! doment500 Awesome work!
Thanks doment! jimfogle Congratulations! Great magazine to get a review from. Good sounding song too, well done.
Thanks Jim. Ironically, I have not re-upped my subscription. I subscribed to Sound On Sound instead bapu Have you replaced Session Drummer 3 with AD2 yet? Kudo on 3 stars. I dream of getting 2 stars on any of my projects.
Thanks Ed! I haven't worked on replacing the drums yet, I'm usually reluctant to revisit a project once it's "finished". In this case though I think I'm going to, and I'm going to try to get it started this weekend. And I've heard many of your projects that were 4 and 5 star worthy. rodreb Nice! Thank you Rod, I also agree about the snare sound. And the piano solo, as you said, was meant to have a bit of a drop in fullness; to me it calls more attention to it. DRanck Congrats Bob! Very nice!
Thanks Dave, appreciate it! bitman Readers Tapes. As obsolete as magazines! I used to love that mag.
LOL, as I said above, I don't subscribe anymore and really can't remember why...I was just drawn more toward SOS. Yes Johnny, I agree, I will be replacing the drums on this one. dlesaux Awesome! Must feel so good to get this recognition. I'm happy for you!
Thanks Daniel, it was a very cool surprise and I thought the reviewer treated me very well. patm300e I like the song! Thank you Pat! I will post the song when I get the replacement drums fiished The vocal was recorded with an MXL V63M condenser mic (VERY inexpensive, I think I paid $90 bucks for it) directly into SONAR. At the time I recorded this I was probably still using the V64 Vocal plugin that comes with SONAR to process it.
