SONAR is the best DAW in the Industry!

If you have been waiting to upgrade, then now is the time to do it and find out why SONAR X1 is the best DAW in the industry today.

The above is from an add copy I received from Cakewalk recently.
I am curious as to the nature of the claim.  Sonar X1 is the best DAW Based on what?

If Cakewalk had inserted "In our opinion" or "In the opinion of many Cakewalk customers" the statement is certainly true.  There are cakewalk customers that feel Sonar X1 is the best DAW in the Industry.

I am curious according to who? What survey? What records?

Is Sonar X1 really the best daw in the industry?  That would mean the sales of Sonar X1 at CW would support a larger staff of developers which is good news.
It would mean quicker development of a more robust DAW and the ability to release a polished version of Sonar X2 at the initial release. Unlike what we saw with Sonar X1.

I am very happy for CW if they have in deed succeeded in becoming the creators of "The Best DAW in the industry!"

Otherwise the claim makes CW look foolish.

There is also the possibility that I have misinterpreted the add or taken the statement out of context.

I kinda think SONAR is the best overall DAW.

But I just learned that the production work I do with it is so horrid... that I should probably not tell anyone what tools I use.

I love Sonar. It has been my DAW of choice since Sonar 3.

I agree with Cakewalk. ALL things considered, nothing else on the market delivers the value of SOnar IMO. X1 was a great move and hopefully will soon be a standard. Your baking time may vary.

Ampfixer, I don't want to come off sounding like a punk (and I don't think I'm better than anyone here), but I notice that there are a lot of low end studio people here (myself included - home studio), but are we really qualified to to make a claim like that? You're using a basic home level audio IO.

I'm curious as to how many people in large pro studios, who do full band recordings and production in studios, feel that Sonar is the best. I personally thing it's one of the best, but I'm not recording platinum albums or projects with 20 drum mics running at once (I believe Ulrich had 24 mics on the Black album per the Bob Rock video I saw). Sure that might be ridiculous to have that many mics at once, but that's the low end of the bar for being "the best daw mankind has ever seen".

That's all. No insults. Just point out that I'm curious what the the heavy players think of Sonar, if there are even any that hang out here in the forums. They're probably too busy working...

    Cheers!

The thing is, the big shiny studios have had their day - most work these days is being done in basements.
I don't honestly think that X1 is the best DAW in the industry but in terms of value for money and features, you can't beat it.
I have made enough money with X1 to call it a 2nd job and most of my business has come from people who have heard what I do using X1 and have been impressed.
Having said all that, if you read Geoff Emerick's book and see what he did with 2 tracks - is it about the man or the machine?

hehe, Yeah, I agree that a lot can be done with it. I'm starting to get more work using it and I'm lovin it =). Although big studios are on their way out, they'll never go away. For instruments like drums, it's difficult to not have them done in a nice studio.

It's "the best DAW in the Industry"?

I thought it was "the feel good DAW of the summer".

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

Having a "pro studio" to track drums really has nothing to do with the actual DAW being used and everything to do with  the room your tracking in and the quality of mics, pres etc.  I really don't see how what DAW is connected to that chain would make a difference. I have rented time in other studios to gain access to the room and the outboard gear.  What DAW they were using was never a concern for me. In most cases it has been pro tools but to be honest it could have been cubase or sonar for all i cared.

Sonar is not the best at anything, but all round is a good, solid DAW with good bang for the buck... Reaper is better value, Cubase has better features, StudioOne has a better audio engine, ProTools has more industry presence, Ableton is better on-the-fly...but for a solid-at-most-things (the Sm57 of the DAWorld) product, yep, it's good.....(well 8.5 is, anyhow)

I own three of the aforementioned products.  cubase, sonar, and live.  I agree live is better on the fly but cubase having better features- i definitely would have to disagree.  But then again I like X1 better than 8.5 so to each there own.
