SONAR keeps asking to create a project folder when opening a file [SOLVED]

So I transferred some MIDI songs from an old floppy disk to SONAR, and saved them as a .cwp files for further mixing & tweaking.  There is no audio, only MIDI data, so they are saved as standalone files, no project folders necessary.

But when I try opening the file I get this message: "C:\Cakewalk Projects\MIDIs\[songtitle] does not exist. Would you like to create it?"

I do NOT want to do that, and have no idea why SONAR is asking me about it.  I can click Cancel and the file still opens, but I still get that dialog every single time. This is most annoying when I open .cwp files to play on stage (yeah I know that's a bad habit but there it is).

It's possible I screwed up the Save options while saving them the first place, but how do I undo the damage?  I just want them to open with no hassle (no association to project folders), as my past MIDI-to-.cwp files do.  Or is this a default behavior that the bakers turned on in recent versions?

.MID is not a native file format in Sonar.  It will import or export .MID but saves (and auto-saves) to its own format.
When you create a new song, Sonar will want to create a basic file structure to save to.  That is what it is asking for.

But this does seem odd if you have already saved them as a .cwp file. Aren't .cwp files "project" files?

Project audio folders are the default. If you are not using audio at all you should still let SONAR create the folder. After that it should not nag you anymore.

.cwp's are indeed project files, and up to now it was never an issue. But I did find a workaround...
    1. After opening the file and canceling the message I get, go to  File > "Save as...".
    2. In the Save dialog, put a check in the "Copy all audio with project" box, then uncheck it again.
    3. Click Save.
    4. Problem solved.
    Isn't life strange?
    (someone should write a song)

I  get this when I open CWP files that I have put on one drive.
I've started the project on my other computer and then open it on the second computer.
It only does it the first time and then goes away.
I work on the file and save it and next time I open that song it's fine.
I always say no to both dialogs that opens.  If I say yes it wants to save to the document folder?
The files I put on one drive are CWP but there's no audio or audio folder because I keep the copy audio box un checked for these files. Normally I always check that box.

Cakewalk changed the way projects were saved (with the audio folder) in Octobers update.
It is now the new default. Is it possible you didn't realize it until now ?

Even if you do not have audio it still creates a folder with the Audio folder and the working project file (.CWP).

Entirely possible. I haven't worked with these files since before then, so it never came up. But now I know.
