SONAR says disk is full when its not
When I try to record I'm getting the message "unable to save entire recording. The audio disk may be full." I'm running everything on one hard drive. This disk has 1.71 TB free. I know sonor reserves some space and recording takes up space but certainly not 1.71TB worth! Any ideas? - Take a look the Available Disk Space readout at the bottom of the Cakewalk window. If it says you're low, then you're low, and you'll need to clean up some space. To do this, choose Tools | Clean AudioDisk. Click [Find], and once all the files are located, choose [Delete All]. Make sure you empty your Windows recycle bin afterward, in case the files were sent there. You can also do this under Start | Programs | Accessories | Systems Tools | Disk Cleanup.
- If the disk space readout looks like you've got plenty of room, locate the file AUD.INI in the Cakewalk directory, and delete it. Next, go to Options | Global | Audio Data, and make sure the Data Directory is pointing to the proper path. If you've recently reinstalled or upgraded Cakewalk, this may be incorrect and you'll have to edit it now.
Alternately, you can change the Data Directory to C:\Wave (or whatever drive letter is appropriate for your system). If you've already recorded some audio in other files, be sure to move the contents of the previous Data Directory to this new one.

I followed the steps and deleted the .ini file and still same problem. On my cakewalk window it does NOT show available disk space as you mention. How do I configure the window to show this?

Are you having IO issues?

No, no problems there. This just started happening today half way through a song.

have tried defragging your PC's HD ? and have you checked: When you press "Save as" where that location is ?

Check the path for global audio data in the preferences. This is where Sonar stores recorded audio if you don't use a project folder. (And this is probably what should be fixed by deleting Aud.ini.) What does the Performance module show about free disk space? Finally, does this happen for all projects, or just a particular project? It may be a particular folder being corrupted on the file system, so use disk tools for error checking.

Could a virus scanner on your pc have interfered with IO?
Often when you hit stop, a wave file can be created our saved promoting your scanner to scan. Then you hit record and now you have an IO bottleneck.
One solution to this is to add your projects folder to your scanner's exclusions.
