SONAR should and can stay alive !!!

Hi
I am so sad about cakewalk. I learnt music pace by pace using Cakewalk products back in "Pro audio 9" days. SONAR have been such a wonderful software that I couldn't have imagined some day it stops existence this much easily. I was thinking about the ways that SONAR can be saved and this thought came to my mind: "is it possible that Microsoft buys SONAR ?" I mean  MAC has Logic so why not Windows and Sonar? Isn't it wonderful?  If it is possible can we write and sign a  to Microsoft and ask them to do so ?
I believe the community of SONAR users should do something and not stay passive. Please give your opinions about this.

when trying all the different daws out there I keep coming back to ....it just aint sonar.   Sonar just fits me for sure, but I am going with presonus when I go ....btw as I love the company and most of its products.  My take has always been if the OS is working turn off automatic updates.  Dont use your DAW to browser the internet and process email, then you should have the security issues.

Rig1: Platinum. 1513 Intel Core i7 5930K (3.50GHz) 32GB DDR3 SSD, GTX 970 Windows  10 64. Focusrite Saffire 6i6. Presonus Monitors.

Rig 2:Platinum. Win 7,  Quad CPU 8 DDR3. SSD. RME multiface II, Oktopre MKII, StudioLive AI 16,  Presonus Sceptre Coaxial Monitors.
Drums:TAMA ImperialStar, Roland TD30
Keys: Yamaha Mx-61, M-audio Keystation IRIG I/O Midi Controllers.
Additional Plugs:Melodyne Editor, Izotope (all), Autotune, Trillian, East West(most),Addictive Drums2, Addictive Piano, AIR FX Collection.

I thought the US was where the entrepreneurial spirit was alive and well.  So I expected a handful of the developers to have drowned their sorrows in a bar and then, defiantly, formed a company, talked to mates/relatives who were attorneys and/or wanted to make an investment and then took and offer to Gibson for the rights to the code and the customer database. This DAW beats others hands down (as being evidenced by most of us test-driving others) and could be cultivated into the high ranking place it so deserves from a small boutique re-start.  Guys, Boston, you've disappointed me.

If enough people are interested we could form a cooperative and do a customer buy out, similar to "management buy out". Then we would become straight out owners of our own tool. Just a thought.

As much as I love Sonar, I think the writing is on the wall. It is a very romantic idea to think that users of a product can save a company or that a corporate knight in shining armour will come to the rescue. Business is business. Money is money. If a subsidiary of a company continually runs at a loss, it gets cut adrift (Roland - Gibson). That's a simple reality.

I don't think either a user or corporate buyout is likely or would be to the long term advantage of the Sonar user base.

I have sadly and regrettably packed up my Sonar swag and have taken on Studio One. It is not Sonar, granted, but it is still growing and, more importantly, is still supported.

Re: SONAR should and can stay alive !!! 2017/12/09 08:55:04 (permalink)
I've narrowed down my alternate choices (for a backup DAW) to Studio One 3 and Reaper.
Studio One is solid, easy to setup and use, but I don't care much for the GUI (graphical user interface)
And Reaper, while it's got a much steeper learning curve, and has crashed a couple of times using my plugins, has the BEST GUI I've ever seen.  Actually not the factory GUI, but the theme sets available for it
I always wanted Sonar to have an interface that looks like an old-school mixing board with backlit "cube style" buttons and lots of simulated LED lights.  (And yes I know it's what the DAW can do, and not so much what it looks like, but still....)

This is one of the more popular user-created themes, and one of my favorites.  There are tons more, with a big variety of styles and colors.  But in the end I keep going back to Sonar Platinum for doing any "real" work.

If you use A DAW that isn't Sonar like Sonar you're likely to be disappointed. If you learn to use it as it was designed to be used you might have more joy. I suggest 30 minutes isn't enough to learn a new DAW from the ground up.
But of course if you can't be bothered.........

Yep, I'm learning Reaper as my future main DAW (if SONAR someday stops working for whatever reason) and Studio One as  runner-up.  But I'm pretty sure Reaper is the best choice for my needs. Haven't had a crash yet, but I don't use a lot of plugins, so it's all good so far.

Reaper does very frequent updates/maintenance releases. If a plugin is causing Reaper grief I would suspect the user base would see a solution faster than Say S1P. JMO.
