SOS Guide to "Extreme Metal Production": Noice! \m/
I just found this this morning and am still perusing it but so far it's proving to be pretty useful and falls in line with some of the stuff I already knew (but goes oh so much deeper). It is of course intended for metal stuff (like I have a tendency of writing... but not always) and digs into the special considerations of such productions... which are apparently quite different than the usual mixological recipes used on other styles. Might be useful for the other headbangers on here so thought they were worth posting. I'd certainly welcome any discussion on what's covered (good bad or otherwise)... Part 1: Pre Production/Tracking http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov09/articles/metal.htmPart 2: Mixing http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec09/articles/metalii.htmAccompanying Vids (on one page): http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov09/articles/metalvideos.htm Keep 'er heavy, doods! \m/

Right on, guys. Always happy to share what I find... especially if spreads the heavy. ;-) I'm actually hoping these will help "unclog" my mixes a bit. Of course I can't really put some of the tracking/equipment stuff into practice (because I'm just a dude sitting in a glorified closet) but it might help me make some better decisions in regards to drum samples, sims and whatnot. Mix stuff... totes need any help I can get there. Cheers.

As someone who has done a lot of metal recording, including a fair bit of extreme metal, I can definitely vouch for the info in those articles. Great advice!
